I need to get a tape backup device with about 1TB of storage capacity. My previous experience with DLT drives were not fruity. At this point I've made a decision on what I should get, but your suggestions may help me make a better decision. I need a very cost effective and reliable solution. Thanks in advance.

Spec-ing out a tape drive is a straightforward exercise which I am sure you have already done in detail. In the range you need, other than DLT, there's not a whole lot of options anyway, other than LTO.

If you'd share the choice you've made, perhaps that can be a starting point for us to add our two cents. I'd assume throughput and Total Cost of Ownership are the bottom line?

If you are not confident of DLT, have you considered a NAS solution ?

Also, a little on the config you have and the disaster recovery/management parameters for system operation would be useful to clarify your requirments for those interested in responding.
