Congratulations, its a beautifully crafted story ! "Hisab bhanechi pisab auney amrikan..." that description had me rolling in laughter. Not to poke fun at anyone, but that is a very apt depscription. I sometimes wonder why that is so though. Could bad math teachers be uniformly distributed in America ? Could a convincing equation be built to support that probability. Any takers ? [am I inviting disaster ? HHG, O wherefore art thou HHG ? Yoohoo, equation time.... ] The story clearly highlighted the dilema that seems to haunt the Nepalese diaspora: how does a guy/girl view a prospective mate if he/she has a 'past?' On another thread here, some strong emotions were expressed by participants on both sides of the argument. It is interesting that your story raises the same questions. I suppose its all a matter of perspective I suppose. Still, is it not practicing double standards when the men often times have lenghty relationships in their own pasts. Then expect a virginal Nepali bride. Yet, as in this story, perhaps willing to accept a non-Nepali female with a past. Is this not, perhaps, bias against Nepali women? Or is it that these local females come in handy for that coveted hariyo patta. Is that all they are good for then, other than that roll in the hay? Finally, what lies in store for those Nepali chelis who have had relationships in their past if they are treated as persona non grata ? Are they to condemned to be old maids or accept non-Nepali mates. Does this perhaps account for their reported (read it here somewhere) penchant for running off with Pakistanis ? Do Nepali men require an attitude adjustment or perhaps learn to better accept the ground realities of life in the US. Just some thoughts for discussion, not accusations.
