Why is pregnancy so hard on Nepali women? Do all women require 9 months of bed rest with each pregnancy? This person has not done ANYTHING more than make a cup of tea for herself in the last 8 months. What is to be expected after childbirth if she won't do ANYTHING while waiting for the "happy day".

Ha ha ha :)

Wait for the postpartum blues!!!!

Practial suggestion:

Change my dear friend, change! A short travel, visiting friends, having fun and not bogging down with sickness is the answer for many.

Try different things and see what works......

I hope the following jotted notes helps you to get some answers:
1. Not all women are the same, therefore, the degree of sufferings varies on different women
2. Pregant women in general suffer from nausea and all other difficulties during the first 3-5 months of pregnancy.
3. The first and third trimestral are high risk period for women and fetal health
4. A small percentage of women develop serious complecacy and need complete bed rest throughout the period
5. Back ache, swelling of limbs, breathing difficulties are most common (if swelling immediately consult doctor)
6. Some racial factors may affect these things, however, complecacy is with every race (nepali women are no exception)
7. The more active women are in their life, the less problems they suffer during pregancy. (there are many examples where women in the villages went to work in the field and returned home with a new baby in their lap)
8. Every pregnancy is unique for the same person. There is no correlation between minor (normal) problems. However, serious complecacies during the first pregnancy means higher risk in subsequent pregnancies.
9. It's the time each woman goes with mental and phisiological changes due to hormonal changes and weight gain. Let alone the problems a swollen abdomen creates them for walking, sitting and sleeping.
10. It's the time they need much support, both phyically and mentally.
11. I have a friend whose wife didnot come out of bed without support during the whole period. Yet, she delivered a baby in six months. (if it was in Nepal, no way.. risk of death for both mother and the child. However, in America, she had to stay in hospital for full four months to carry home a miracle baby with her)
12. If you are an expecting dad, please go through some women's health magazine, give more time to your wife, take her to the doctor yourself and discuss with the doctor.

Good luck

Harris, Thank You. I guess Im just frustrated witht the total complacency, I don't have to do anything, inactivity, "take care of me" attitude she has developed. I want her to do something for her own health besides lay in bed for 9 months.
