Hi Nepalisoul, Welcome to NYC. As far as the college is concerned, CUNY is the cheapest and yet legitimate college to go in NY metropolitan area. I didn't take my educations there (did in NJ), but know friends from there who have earned serious degrees. Anything cheaper than CUNY is not worth the dime. CUNY has junior (community) and senior colleges. The junior college costs half as much as the senior ones. I would suggest you do two years (or one) of your education from these community colleges and the rest of the two from the senior colleges. There are number of junior colleges depending upon the area you will be residing at. In Manhattan they have Borough of Manhattan Community college, in Bronx they have Hostos Community and in Queens, they have Queensborough community. The best senior colleges are City College, Queens College, Hunter and Baruch. You should visit www.cuny.edu for more info. Anybody from one of the CUNY colleges, please verify that my info is right. SUNY, the State university are almost the same cost if you have a green card. If not they cost almost double and the nearest one is the Stony Brook etc. You still might be able to register for one of the junior college or you can transfer later. First choose your college, then find a place to live nearby. Afte a week, start searching for job. Try your college first, talk to your foreign student advisor. Get acquainted with NY Nepali communities after that. You can goto www.chakrapath.com and find a link for NY Nepali student association or Alliance for Democracy and Human Rights website. Hope that helps. |

Nepalisoul bhai... Yes, the community colleges of CUNY system are the cheapest colleges in town. The most popular one among the Nepalis, I think, is LaGuardia Community College in Queens. Basne, khane, kaam garne kura haru...why don't you email me, and I'll see what I can do. Although, many times people learn the best about them after you come here and start to get the knack of things around you. |
