Wow, this is one of the best movies I ever seen in my life! And the songs are great, especially Roy Orbison's "In Dreams", the one the homosexual pimp, Ben (he owns a prostitution house, which is full of overweight, ugly women), "performs". But damn, the bad guy, Frank Booth, who snorts helium to raise his sexual vigor, and who is infatuated with old bluesy-type songs, has to be the best villain ever. The part where he has sex with Dorothy Vallens without taking off his pants was pretty funny, while simultaneously disturbing. The movie was an eye opener. Beneath the facade of a peaceful neighborhood lurks the world of crime, prostitution, sadism and masochism, and depravity. How many neighborhoods are like that in the US? Many, right? The movie opens with color and ends with color. Color of the roses(red) is an allusion to the theme of the movie. Favorite dialogue, "I'll send you a loveletter straight from my heart". He means he is going to shoot the kid. If I am correct, they also play Ketty Lester's song, "Love Letters straight from your heart".At the start, I got the impression that it would be another one of those formula movies , since Jeffrey acted like one of the Hardy boys, but boy, was I wrong! It's as non-conformist as it can get. David Lynch is a genius. Two thumbs up. (Warning though, not for the weak-hearted!). Another movie I recommend is Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange". It's also pretty disturbing. A one-dimensional man on whom goodness is forced is, basically speaking, impotent.
