We can now access a number of Nepal-related websites with a click of a mouse.

But there was a time not too far in that past when The Nepal Digest, popularly known as TND, (http://www.thenepaldigest.org) was perhaps only such thing available. No wonder it had legions of loyal followers.

After a long lull, TND is back. And it now has a new editor, Ujjwal Bhattarai.

I would like to thank the founding editor Raj Pal Singh for his pioneering efforts. I would also like to extend my best wishes to Ujjwal. With a caveat: TND no more runs a one-horse race. As I write this message a host of Nepali websites come to my mind: suskera, nepalnews, kantipuronline, and of course sajha.

On a larger and a very personal note, let me add web-zines (particularly the interactive ones like TND) have contributed enormously to a democratic discourse, and given us all a new space, immediacy, and vocabulary to express ourselves, to make sense of a fast changing world, to find new friends. And this new freedom has made us see that it's just as important to listen to others, who more often than not have a different vocab.

IF,

Just go to the url

http://www.thenepaldigest.org

infact its very first edition after resurrection just came out this past friday, Jan 31st.

The effort of Mr. Ujjwal Bhattarai in bringing TND back is very commendable. I too, wish him the very best on this laudable venture!

When TND first came out during the early 90's, internet was barely blossomming and for many Nepali people, TND was sort of a connection to Nepal and Nepali. Hence it's popularity. Today, with internet sites like nepalnews, KantipurOnline, and a plethora of other news sites as well as discussion based site like sajha, nepalhorizons, I think TND has a lot to accomplish before it can once again gain the momentum it had gained in the past.

My best wishes to the TND team.

Exciting to see that TND is back (good old days). Hats off to Raj Pal and best wishes to Ujjwal

On the lighter note, guys/gals, be careful with all these 'e' thing (JK). You never know how long it will it stay in cyber space what you say and do today!!!!!

Today, if I type my name in 'google search' few of the links I get back is TND pages from early 1990s when I posted something in TND (google cache, though the TND site was not there you could see them) with my real name - you can read whole article.

Dangerous, Amazing and Scary!!!!!

As someone who owes his so-called claim to minor fame to TND, I am delighted to
hear that TND is making a comeback. Congrats to Rajpal and to the new team on this initiative.

As one can imagine, I have very warm and fond memories of writing for and reading TND.

On a personal note, for the last several years, I have been meeting Nepalis abroad and in Nepal who on hearing my name, say, "Oh, aren't you the one who used to write for The Nepal Digest?"

For a writer, or for that matter, even for a Web poster, there are no sweeter words :-)

Invariably, over the years, that question and subsequent guff-suff with other TND readers have led -- for me anyway -- to many cherished friendships, contacts, even professional networks, instances of working together and so on and on around the world.

I remain grateful to TND, and it's really great to hear about its revival.
Again, I wish all the best to the new team.

Dear VillageVoice, IF, najar, Computer, PH, LS and Ashu dai:

Thanks to all of you for your warm support and welcome!

I am Ujjwal Bhattarai - the new coordinator and editor of The Nepal Digest (TND). As you all know, TND stopped its publication from 2000. For another 3 years, it went for a long sleep. But not any more.

The Nepal Digest is alive and kicking at http://theNepalDigest.org.

Today we are restarting this great venture from scratch. The list that we have right now is young and relatively new to the legacy of the TND. This list 2,000+ people) is little bashful and requires guidance from seasoned writers like you .

After launching the first issue of TND, I have received so many wonderful emails from people around the world. That proves TND is not dead after all. Its loyal subscribers are back. Many people are signing up and sending me emails wishing luck. However, what TND needs now is strong writers like you, strong network of writers like the ones guys have, and the long experience in this arena.

I need your guidance and support. Please email me at contact@theNepalDigest.org with your suggestions, comments and of course criticisms.
