Get a life?
You are the one who doesn't seem to have a life or else you wouldn't be spending so much time on Sajha trying to go thru all the threads and become a compulsive writer on each one of them. And I guess you haven't heard about a saying "Na janee gauon ko bato na sodhnu."

Doesn anyone know if there are live webcast of the matches?
Vision Posted on 04-Feb-03 09:40 AM

When I was a kid, cricket was something only dhoties play yaar. People in Nepal didn't follow cricket, we played football. Infact, Nepal had the most dominating football team in South Asia. Wonder what happened! Perhaps we started focusing on cricket which had never been our game. But I suppose its nice to try new things.

so who are playing in the world cup? btw test match SUCKS! I can live with one day match.
oys_chill Posted on 04-Feb-03 10:22 AM

vision jyu,

u r probably right. Cricket has overshadowed soccer in Nepal, but i think it is justified. aaba football field ma herum na.......NEpalis are almost always physically disadvantaged....I think Nepal has a very bright prospect in Cricket, owing to recent performances...wouldn't be better, if were dominating cricket in South Asia? I can't wait for that day :) whipping India !!!

I have seen a five year old kid in my hometown, bowl a perfect "China-man"......n i gasped then.....to get into world cup of football, we probably have to wait another century...to get into cricket world cup? NEXT ONE????
oys-from the pavilion re kya ajha ;)

I agree with Chill bro, even though soccer is most watched and probably liked game, Nepal doesn't have a good future, for atleast two or three decades, maybe more. But when it comes to Cricket, I think they have a good chance of getting into the test-playing nations tag, which the most recent one to get was Bangladesh. Nepal have been producing good cricketers and have already established themselves as a force to reckon with in the under 19 games.

Their performance in this year's under 19 game in Singapore (hola), was overwhelmingly sweet and I was good to see Nepal perform against the youngsters from other test playing nations, very well. And also being the neighbor of Pakistan and India, Nepal have a very good chance to doing well in Cricket. Like Chill bro said, How I would love to see one day Nepal kicking India's ass. Tendulkar's stumps absolutely flying out of the ground. What a scene that would be to pull off.

queen,
Try going to wisden.com they have a live webcast. I think you have to pay $4 a game. Not sure though. Check out the websites I provided above. They have infos and links to when the game will be webcasted and by whom.

vibrant soul jyu

do u follow cricket closely?? me don't follow now..but perhaps, I was an addict once.......and the addiction was worse than of sajha re kya ;)

there's this bowler in Southafrica, Paul Adams, he is an unorthodox left arm spinner, and he bowls with this strange action (goru le hanla jasto garera, but at the same time leaping like a frog..gotta see to believe it), but instead of the ball turning like in a conventional away from the stumps, the ball turns towards the stumps with this high arm slinging action.......and the whole package whoever coined the term is called a CHINAMAN!!!...still not convinced....?? eheh i wanna know the person whom u called....must be BASEBALL FAN EH? haha wouldnt' be surprised.

I personally picked up cricket when I was in eighth grade. Before that I was in to football like many other nepalis. But the entire development of cricket in Nepal in recent past is like what an economist would say, "Comparatice advantage." Nepal has a more comparative advantage in cricket than football. So many people adopt cricket because they can sense the success. And as everyone here said, I would also like to see our nepali players beat the crap out of especially Indian cricket team in future.
And cricket gets more and more interesting as you understand the game, more so when you learn to play it. It is amlost like Golf, seems boring until you know the game.
At one time I used to hate the Test Matches and prefreed One Days, but as I got more into the game, I learnt that the real cricket game is actually Test Match rather than one day because in Test, the players get the opportunity so show their skill and talent more.
I just hope that the cricket doesn't fade away like football did in Nepal. At one time Nepal football was the South East Asian champion and now, it gets beaten even by Bangaladesh. I hope the same doesn't happen with cricket.

Couldn't agree more, Toilet paper bro. A player's mental as well as technical and physical strenght's test is actually on a Test level. More so one day is a shorter format of the game where big hitting and high scoring entertains game watchers. I was surprised to see the Test match crowd in India. It was like a one-day game. Full house crowd, absolutely cheering all day long for the Indian side for five days. Can you imagine that?

Even a shorter format has been introduced called super sixes where I think there is 10 overs a match. The ground is smaller and there we can watch flurry of fours and sixes. No wonder the team gets their pinch hitters out on that game to smash the ball all over.

Test matches were a bore to the crowd early in the decade where lots of matches ended in a disappointing draw. Nowadays it rarely is a tie and most matches end within the alloted 5 days. That is definitely going to help the game a lot. We have to thank the aussies of the mental preparation towards trying to win every test matches and the draw rarely was Steve Waugh's target.

But without doubt if one-day format wasn't there, there wouldn't be so much of followers of the game. It is now a worldwide entertainment and teams are getting higher and higher scores, which, 10 years behind was a sky scraper.

The team batting first target a 250 plus and probably with some big hitting players coming down the order, 300 should be the target. We have even seen teams chasing those huge targets, so you never know what happens. World Cup starts from Feb 9 with South Africa and West Indies game the first one. What a result that would be if West Indies were to pull off an early upset. They have got some very good players in Sarwan, Hinds, Captain Hooper and Lara is back in his best touch.

Chill bro, you descried Adams action pefectly man. Isn't he fun to watch? I thought the China-men and what they call Googly was the same thing. But thanks for the information.

Dear criket fans,
Yes, this should be a good world cup. But I don't understand why the British are trying to ruin the game by mixing their dirty politics in sports? Why are they making such a fuss about playing in Zimbawabe? If you ask me, it smacks of racist attitude. I think it is a good thing that a small and a new country is trying to co-host the game, but the British are bent on discrediting them for political reasons.
I thought cricket was supposed to be a gentleman's game no?
