I am planning to visit Chicago over my spring break.( March 14-23). I know it's not the coolest destination for a spring break, but what the heck ..it's better than staying on campus for those sucky 10 days. I would appreciate if any of you who is familiar with the city could give me an idea of things to do there, places to hangout, any concerts? good clubs, bars etc etc..I know i can find all this info online..but I also wanted to explore sajha before looking up on the web.

Thanks for your info in advance!!

If you decide to come in Miami, Fl then we can show around some cool places/clubs/beaches---better than south beaches..

Chicago is a very beautiful City, I have been there couple of times, and tell you the truth I want to move there, you got everything that you need, clubs, starting from your regular dance club to one of the famous blues club, jazz clubs, comedy clubs, and not to mention strip club which I don’t advice you to go cause it’s expensive as hell but if your into the whole strip club theme, just past the border of Indiana you will find a place fill with beautiful women, they even have Indian stripper, worth your money .
It’s very diverse kinda community, but surely beautiful people, esp. in summer you will see it, the only bad thing about Chicago is the damn cold winter, they have all kinds of festivals in Chicago, I was surprise people were so much in tuned about outdoor activities
And the food fogetaboutit every time I visit Chicago I gain 10 to 15 pounds.
I heard Nepalese community is rather small in Chicago, I only had chance to meet couple of people, they were very hospitable. Hope that helps

Depends on your interest on what you want to do in chicago during spring break. Not an ideal time to see the city, however there are a number of museums, namely, Field museum, science and industry museum, art museum. Planatarium and aquarium are pretty close to Field musuem. All the musuems are free on mondays and tuesdays except for special exhibits. Sears tower (world's tallest building, apparently) and John Hancock towers are other two things. You can always find nepalis working in Navy Pier. Michigan avenune is also referred as magnificient mile which is a high shopping area. If the weather is good, you can always take boat or walk architectural tour in downtown chicago. There is Lincoln zoo close to downtown chicago and Botanic garden in the suburb.
If you are more of a bar and concert type of person, there is a great Blues bar in downtown chicago. you can probably get the location from the internet. Tons of good resturant. There is a nepali resturant in the suburb, however, you can get there by taking a train.
Enjoy your visit to chicago.

For those that saw Val Kilmer's "Ghost and The Darkness", the lions that actually terrorized the railway workers are in the Field Museum. So is the largest elephant ever shot. If that sorta thing interests you.

The Sear's Towers observation deck is an interesting do. However, the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, are the tallest buildings on planet earth as of this writing.

Adirnodack, Bella has made some excellent points. She seems to be an expert on the Batasay Sahar. While I have not had an opportunity yet to explore the city in detail, here are a few of my personal recommendations.

The Field Museum is an excellent place you can enjoy regardless of the weather. With its extensive range of collections, you can easily spend hours there. One of the major attractions my fading memory can recall from there is the skeleton of a dinosaur. Aquarium pani ramro cha bhanne suneko ho. Navy Pier pani majaa cha. If the rotay ping (ferris wheel) there is operational during your time of visit, get yourself inside multiple layers of clothing and enjoy the skyline of the city. Don't forget your thermal gloves otherwise you may not be able to take some wonderful snaps unless you dare to turn your fingers into icicles. Also don't miss the boat tour to check out what is on the waterfront (possibly icefront in your case). Tyaha ek thau ma indoor garden jasto cha majaa ko. Ani Nepali le thapeko and/or Nepali kaam garne pasal haru pani tannai rahichan.

Sears Tower: Kathmandu ko Dharahara bhanda pani kati aglo cha hau tyo ta. Tyo 100+ tala samma gagro ma paani bokne lai kati dukha hudo hola. Anyway, enjoy the view of the city from the observation deck. As a word of warning, mathi jana aghi they take (at least they did as of 1999) "mandatory" photos stating that you are under no obligation to buy them. Tala farkinay bela ma your pictures are ready. You are so tempted to secure your copy. Of course, you end up paying an outrageous price for it.

Devon Street: People from South Asia call it Deewaan. Divided between the Indian (Mahatma Gandhi Marg) and Pakistani (Mohammed Ali Zinnah Road) parts, that place is the closest you can get to South Asia in the US, perhaps apart from Jackson Heights, NY. The street is lined with two or three storied houses brightly lit with neon signs. You can hear loud music and see people walking haphazardly, often spitting paan. Enjoy authentic Indian food for competitive prices at one of the abundant restaurants. If you want to go the native way, you can wash yourself at the sink on the corner after eating using your hands. If you need to use the bathroom, you may possibly even opt for a lota instead of toilet paper (I don't recall seeing a lota in Chicago but did see one in Atlanta). Shop for your favorite music, movies, spices etc that are available in a wider variety and cheaper price compared to smaller cities.

Also visit various ethnic enclaves and savor on their delicacies. Aba Jazz ra Blues ani deep dish pizza ra hotdogs ta synonymous nai bhai halyo haina? Ani University of Chicago ko pani ramro museum cha bhanne suneko thie.

La have a great trip. Stay “unfrozen.” Ani do share your experiences in Sajhapur.

Alright.. ma matra kina sajha.com ko faida nauthaune...?

A female partner between age 18-24 needed to accompany me during my chicago trip. The ideal partner will be down to earth, outgoing, fun-loving and obsessed with clubs and bars. A familiarity with the Chicago area will be a plus.

If interested, please email me with your interests and how you would like to spend the break and also for full details on myself.
