Another cute email ... ## What is globalization? Below is probably the best example of globalization. Question: What is the height of globalization? Answer: Princess Diana's death Question: Why? Answer: An English princess with an Egyptian boyfriend crashes in a French tunnel, driving a German car with a Dutch engine, driven by a Belgian who was high on Scottish whiskey, followed closely by Italian paparazzi, on Japanese motorcycles, treated by an American doctor, using Brazilian medicines! And this is sent to you by a Canadian, using Bill Gates' technology which he got from the Japanese. And you are probably reading this on one of the IBM clones that use Philippine-made chips, and Korean made monitors, assembled by Bangladeshi workers in a Singapore plant, transported by lorries driven by Indians, hijacked by Indonesians and finally sold to you by a Chinese! That's globalization!!! (And let me add you're reading it on a Nepali web site ...)

That was a good one Sally! If the intensification of the global mixing up or messing up is globalization, then this better be the thing! I had been thinking along slightly different lines, but the same theme: Saudi Arabian nationals blow up the World Trade Towers using Boeing planes running on Nigerian oil, America obliterates the Taleban and much of Afghanistan, the prisioners (or 'illegal enemy combatants', as Ashcroft styles them) are incarcerated in Cuba, A mega pipeline is built through Afghanistan, and finally Bush finds the culprit, So off we march to Baghdad With the Brits in tow!! In this case of globalization, what is the common unifying thread? Oil!

Thanks sally for sharing that wonderful piece with us. But on a serious note: Gl;obalziation is not a new phenomenon. The history of Globalziation goes as far as to 5000 years, when Jericho emerged as one of the first nation states by modern definitions. What about the Silk Road, wasn't it a form of Globalization? The only difference is, these days, with the development in technology and other things, the pace is faster.. otherwise, Globalization started from the time of the Neanderthals, hoina ra? mero bichar ho... sathi harooko k cha? sunau na.
