It is our sad duty to inform you all with profound sorrow that a meeting of the Raj Parishad held on June 4, 2001 has declared the demise of His Majesty King Dipendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev of Nepal at Birendra Military Hospital in Kathmandu on Monday June 4, 2001 at 0345 hrs Nepalese Standard Time. The meeting of the Raj Parishad held today has also, in accordance with the Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal, 1990 and the law, custom and usage relating to the succession to the Throne, declared the paternal uncle of, and next of kin in line of succession to, His late Majesty King Dipendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev, His Royal Highness Prince Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah, His Majesty the King of Nepal with effect from Monday, June 4, 2001. Amidst the special ceremony, the accession to the Throne of His Majesty King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev was solemnized at Nasal Chowk, Hanuman Dhoka Royal Palace, in Kathmandu on Monday, June 4, 2001. A separate Book of Condolence will be kept open for those willing to express condolences and sympathies at the official residence of the Royal Nepalese Ambassador at 2730 34th Place, N. W., Washington, DC 20007 on June 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, 2001 between 10 a. m. to 12.30 p. m and 2 to 5 p. m. The Royal Nepalese Embassy will remain closed from Monday, June 4 to Friday, June 8, 2001 to mourn the passing away of His Majesty the King Dipendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev Royal Nepalese Embassy Family Washington, D.
