hi all,
We have some brilliant people in sajha world, so hope to get some feedback. i have to choreograph a nepali dance for the annual college festival. can u guys think of a fast, happy sounding and interesting folk song for the dance? any suggestion is welcome but should be traditional more than modern dance. let me know if I can find the song on any site too. And also , can i find any videos or visual material to look up the dance steps. will appreciate ur help.

Not a fan of dances but if I can make suggestions here are my favourites:
* Cham Cham Nachi deu urlera, hatama rumal.... (tempo fastens and slows periodically)
* Resham Firiri
* Sarangiko dhun le (something like that)
* E kali he he choya ko doko.

hi all,
thanks a lot.. there were some great suggestions.. gave me a starting point atleast. Could you also suggest any sites or mp3 i can get these from? would appreciate it a lot. And i have tried looking for nepali videos .. through library but couldnot find any.. would you know of any place i can order or find. I know music nepal is releasing a VCD with nepali folk songs and dance but no idea when it is coming out.. i am not a great choreographer and definitely dont want to repeat the steps i did. please keep me posted.

Dear yatra,
Good for you, we certainly need to promote our original, authentic look geets! Whats more, they are excellent for very vigorous and joyous group dancing.
Although I like many of the favourites posted above, if you really want an explosive and authentic jhayure number, you got to have this
'Kaala kutai le
daaiya maryo afnai kalle
mai maare surtaile
kaala kurtai le
Chha maina jagire khaya
...."
It is from a very old Nepal film, maybe the first one. If you can get this one, I promise you that you will rock the College show.

Hey thanks everyone,
I had thought of the "Kaale Kurthai le " (ref by suva) too but in between it is kind of slow and since i am the only nepali around here, noone is going to understand the words and i realised that people like more fast and upbeat songs with lots of percussion instruments. Rightnow i am thinking of "Chatta rumal" (ref by trikal) cause it is kind of fast and more music and you can act out the words . But the problem is i found it on gorkhali.com and cannot save it as mp3 file. Any idea how i can save this song and burn it into a cd? Ani .. any idea of learning typical nepali dance moves? Will hopefully do a goood performance, tapain haru ko kripale.

2. Maitighar maitighar maitighar is another one.....all girls
3.Mohani laglaa hai gaunleko bolile.....
4.Baisaima marchhu po kyaare bhana solti barambaar nadhaati.....is another great one
