Ani, It was sad to know about the situation of Phujel gaau ko school. Do they start their course that late[9 classko science 10 classko shurumaa], and do they have such scarcity of teachers huh? It is so surprising to know that a lot of things we take as routine is luxury just a few hours away from Narayanghat.

A couple of things to elaborate.... Biswoji, did you see me drinking or smoking anytime? Tapain jattikai ho ma pani... ha ha...
I had my car smelling of cigarette smoke all day yesterday when a smoking mechanic worked on this... churot tandai basechha kyara mero car bhitra.... whatever twists I put up in the story.... the background shows some reality of schools in the hills.
It was true that Bhairabashram, a proposed high school in Phujel, had been in the crisis of science, maths and English teachers. I left it just before test examination. Later that year, English teacher left the school to put up a grocery store in Narayangarh. Maths teacher could not stay long when his strong political affiliation came to an exposure with opposition majority community. The headmaster who had tried hard to gather some young teachers also left the school and migrated to Tandi.
All these happenning large number of students transferred to Namjung high school en masse. Virtually, the school was left with no good students and the program collapsed. There was no need to look around for science and maths teacher at high school level.
It was unbelievable to me that some of the class ten students used to come to school bare foot, as they could not afford a regular shoes. They were really hard workers and would do anything if guided properly. 31 out of 34 students passed the first test of the school. 27 of them passed SLC in second or third division. A couple of students were among my regular visitors even ten years after I left Phujel.
I had to be a science teacher at school and JTA in the village. It was sad to know that Phujel had some kind of orange disease throughout the village and the people lost huge money. These days, it is one of the severely moist affected villages in Gorkha.
AKHIR YO EUTA KATHA NAI HO... PLENTY OF FABRICATION. Kathaharu aaundai garchhan, jandai garchhan...patra haru pherinchhan, ghatanachakra tod mod hunchhan...tara mero man ka panahurma koriyeka phujel ko taswirharu ustai chhan.

What a delightful story. Gajjab chha. This is your fourth story I 've read so far, and I must say, it just keeps on getting better.
Some of my best childhood moments have been spent in Phujel -- that steep hike from Kureentaar to Makaising, and that "terpaya, terpaya" trail to Bhairabthan, then that descent to Pauwa. That chautaro between Pauwa and Kaudi, one of the most serene places. When I was 12, Kaudi ko Gurung "deuta" predicted by reading my palm that I will go overseas. I don't know if it was my palm or my hardwork, but here I am. Overseas. But to that Shaman, "overseas" could very well have been Bhairawa. I doubt he knew much geography, but he definitely had tremendous healing (psychological) powers.
Dashain ko ping in Devkota gaun, and sometimes as far as Aamdanda where I have also taken some classes for fun. To avoid that killer Makaising ko Oralo, preferred going to Besi, and then Gandaki ko tir tirai, via Darbung, up to Benighat. The highway buses wouldn't stop for such lowly passengers from Benighat! There was a gradation in the quality of buses -- those from Purba on their way to Ktm thought they were the coolest, their khalaasis were the most rude. Those from nearby places like Bhairawa, Narayanghat were jhaarpaat, especially the trucks that would stop every ten kilometers, and honk at anything female, even a cow.
Taanglichowk ko gurans bhannu bho, Firfire ko daanda baata 360 degree view is unforgettable. Bhairabthan is good too; Namjung ko bann, and the fresh, green oranges in that entire belt were the best!
The last time I was in Phujel was in 1999. Went up to Manakamana on the cable car, one way, then walked on from the temple eastwards, trying a new route via Tin Maane Bhanjyang. It took a full 6 hours, and considering that the Maoists were already doing their "kraanti", it was quite risky for a total stranger to wander around unknown trails, but it was "Destination: Phujel" that propelled me without much fear.
Can't wait to go back. Gandhi-ji le naramrari homesick banaidiye.

Gandhi Ji, It reminded me my chidhodd as Paschim said. My Mama ghar also in Phujel Where I went to school untill grade four (Phul pati danda).I still remember that day when I used to go to Bhairabnath with my grandmother (Roti chadaunako lagi). It is too sad she is not in this earth now. It's been 9 years I haven't been there. I was in Gorkha for winter break last month. I went to Makaising but didnot go to Phujel. It is too bad my friend who I used to hang out with are Maost Gurilla. I hope, I wiil see them sometimes. I heard that two of them were died.

I also happen to visit fujel....for the Nationwide scholarship Programme..tyo gorkha bajaar bata pura hidai gayeko thiyau, Bungkot........and we came back through Darbungtar....anni Kurintar tira bata farki ko thiyau....Raat ma baas basnu parne bela bhayo people were sceptic..garho bhayeko thiyo...it was all because of maobadi.....
Addiction barema gajab ko lagyo....I also try to smoke when I drink..but I never know why..but I never smoke when i am not drunk...aani I also liked the phrase..dukkha paerya bihe garya dulai lai khodna garho re..LOl...sachhi ho??..lack of experience ..

It's a pleasure to know how many of you have connection to the places I have ever been to. Vivid and Noname also caught me up in Tiwaribhanjyang in my last story. My additional Phujel connection is that my own sister is married to Phujelian Devkota.
VillageVoiceji, had I thought of the phrase from your friend's gf, we might have different twist on the story. I will write a personal email to you soon.
Paschim, Junu and Lonely ji, good to know that you are still visiting Phujel. Next time you go there, you may see some people who might still remember me. Those students who attended 9 classes in a day (7 regular plus one each before 10 and after 4 to finish the lagged course in time) would definately remember me. Paschimji, I had been to phiphire danda once... but I forgot to have a 360 degree view as Meghnath sir and I were so busy finding a pair of oxen for his farm.

Not that I don't feel like writing but I am near completing my M.S. and these days I am a full time student and a full time employee. This fact in itself is not a big deal but the classes I am taking now are draining my energy with threatening vigor. So, padhaiko chunautilai alikati tara launa paye lekhai tira pani dhyan dina hunthyo bhaneko....hero kanchhi taruni ko fandama pareko jasto ma ahile padhaiko fandama parera... hero jastai tara fanda bata chhuttina man pani chhaina...dharo dharma!
