So, between the two Bushes ( Father, Son and the Holy ghost [patriotic spirit]), we share Two storms; Desert Storm and Winter Storm. Well, I am ecstatic about the latter...will give DC-aites something to think about other than just duct tape and plastic! After going through days, weeks and months of excruciating pain of pulling hairs, splitting hairs and having bad hair days, Bush would certainly like to Hot WaX Saddam from the face of this earth; he himself fears such as being on Saddam's repertoire of New Year's resolutions! But we (DC-aites) are kindly obliging by using duct tape and what- have- yous and -what- nots! Never used tape to wax off unwanted hair but hey, desperate times require desperate measures re... just hope that it works and is less painful! YA! In the mean time, schools are out for this whole week!!!! Guess what, our counties don't have enough money to Cold Wax off the side walks to make it walkable for AMERICAN children to walk on the sidewalks to school. Many children in PG county public schools are NOT bussed. The danger (of them having to walk in the narrow snowy roads)has forced schools shut!!!! AND I laugh in derision...while Bush dreams of nuking Iraq's offending appendage, snow is being shovelled, sloooooooowly. Ya, we need solar power now to melt the blasted snow not nuclear power. So why should we care if it snows in DC ( other places get more snow)....DC is one of the most inequipped places to tackle a storm...let alone start a war! Surely, Hairy days are ahead of us, as the avenging angel descends with his flaming sword and crooked halo to rid the world of evil. While the Eagle has Landed (in Iraq), the selfrighteous destroys its own. Unless ofcourse you believe: The Iraqi shave has nothing to do with oil while the Govt. should allow you to drive an SUV that gets 6 miles to the gallon because natural resources are limited while you are a super power. Not to mention the fact that being the ONLY country in the world not signing the Kyoto treaty to prevent global warming is a smart business decision. hmmmmmmmm.... it is also better to spend money funding the Israeli Army than on all US domestic programs combined. but then who is to protest the Bushy administaration's decision to stay out of people's life but not out of same-sex marriage, ending or not ending pregnancies ( but then, can a woman be trusted with decisions about her own body?), while large multi-national corporations should have no regulations or interference. Come now guys, forgive and pray for Newt Ginrich, Henry Hyde and Bob Livingston for their martial indiscreetions, Trent Lott was definitely unfairly treated!!!! Society in America is color-blind but hey don't vote for Allen Keyes! And what about schools? Hey keep condoms out of schools, because of course if teenagers don't have condoms, they won't have sex!!! Hey perhaps the duct tape and plastic might come in handy there! The immorality of the biology teachers is in teaching basic human sexuality..while the Bible is devoid of any such sexual content! But sex education is IMMORAL if you believe that the AIDS virus is not important enough to deserve federal funding proportionate to the resulting death rate. And again, let Ken Starr spend 50 million dollars to attack Clinton's rep, profession and his private parts because no other US presidents have ever been unfaithful to their wives. And ofcourse the divine rights of the Bush ( the burning bush ...from the bible?) to announce a whole region (regardless of people, personalities, culture, humanity as a whole) as the Axis of Evil!!!! A resurrection of Colonial times neatly (so it seems!) wrapped up in ambigious morality and personal self-rightiousness....while the world clamours for peace and dialogue? Would surely like to know the rationale behind this Avenging Angel and his personal agenda of tweezing out the offending short hairs of his "moral", "Good" World! PEACE!!!

Heh, you seem to forget that DC's mayor is a corrupt democrat named Anthony Williams, the same guy who committed election fraud. But so what he is a democrat( or a republican for that matter)? DC is unequipped to tackle snowstorms, but this has nothing to do with the government's financial situation at present; rather, it has to do with DC not being a hub of major snowstorms. If you've been following the news, you would know that the winterstorm that hit DC a few days ago was actually the 6th largest ever recorded, or so Fox News made me believe. Now knowing this as a fact, we shouldn't be blaming the government for not living up to our standards. Also, we can safely conclude that Code Orange wasn't declared for no reason. I am pretty sure the government has concrete pieces of evidence, else it wouldn't be raising the danger level a notch. According to AOL poll( I know it's not scientific) only 10% actually followed the governments advice, while a whopping 70% didn't really care about it, and the rest, if I remember, were ambivalent to it. In other words, people have been leading their lives normally, without any drastic changes or measures. Mark my words, America will not go to war against Iraq, because if it really wanted to, it could have just gone there and nuked Iraq to smithereens, without caring squat about what are "allies" think about American policies. Saddam is a criminal, no doubt about it, since he oppresses his own people. Iraq actually has a Shiah majority, while the rulers are mostly Sunnis. But let's not forget the only thing they understand in the Arab world, power. Saddam Hussein's full name is Saddam Hussein al-tikriti, tikriti being the tribe he he belongs to. Saddam well knows that using his full name would call for unwanted protests(and coup de tats) from various opposing tribes, since Iraq is a quintessential example of a middle-eastern country, which has a motley crew of countless tribes fighting for power. Having established that in the middle-east the general mass only understand power, traditionally speaking, there have been two ways that a tyrant can make himself a symbol that people can recognize: one is to ruthlessly rule the mass, and the other is to rule them benevolently. Whatever path the tyrant takes, the precedence, however is always bloody. Now, Saddam happens to be a good tyrant. Sure, when he came to power, he ruthlessly wiped out every well-known figures in Iraq at that time, even his close friends, but from then on, up to war with Iran, Iraq was prospering, and doing pretty well. Saddam's people don't hate him; whatever hate that has been instilled comes from American propaganda. Saddam dreams of becoming a modern version of Saladin. He wants to unite the Arab world and bring back the glories it had seen during bygone times. His vision, or fantasy if you prefer, is very noble, but the path he followed, to take America head on lead to his downfall. Now who really came up with this idea of making countries by taking into account geographical barriers, language differences, cultural similarities and dissimalirities, and basically divided a pretty big area where people moved freely from one place to another, into teeny little insignificant specks that nobody cares about? Europeans, right? Same applies to the Indian subcontinent. Since we can't bring back what happened, the only thing we can do is dream, dream that someday everything naturally falls into place and things are normal again.

Bhedo.......i agree with you on one point "Saddam is a criminal"....but that doesn't mean the US should go and attack Iraq first. Yes....saddam hussein should be thrown out of iraq but that's not the first job that the president of the united states has to do first.....there's something else that tops the priority in the list...... North korea has accepted that it has nukes and that it is still making nukes......and also north korea has threatened the united states that any interruption in it's nuke programs will result in a war with the united states......so why is it that the united states is not attacking north korea first?......saddam hussein repeatedly has been telling that he doesn't have any nukes.....and still the president of the united states is after him.....but he is not giving a damn care to north korea's nuke programs......so what is he thinking right now? do u really think this is about disarming saddam of the deadly nukes??.....if it is then why not go and disarm north korea first??.....because they have a way lot of nukes and are claiming it too.....whereas on the other hand saddam has not claimed anything. the thing is.......it is all politics......Mr. Bush has two reasons for not attacking north korea.....and those two reasons are the reasons for trying to attack iraq: 1. North Korea has so many weapons and nuclear warfare materials that Bush fears he will lose the war with north korea.......and that is the main reason why he is not attacking north korea.....instead everyone in the world knows that iraq is going through rough times right now and is not strong nuclearlly, financially and morally for this war.....so it's easy to win a war with iraq.......the united states is 100 percent sure to win the war with iraq.... 2. believe it or not.......the second reason for attacking iraq is it's "oil"....... well......i leave it up to u guys to decide whether these two reasons are worthy or not.....i am just trying to present my side of the argument.

sitara, gajjab cha...awesome.. nicely written hajur. Bhedo, The US will attack Iraq. Its now inevitable. They will do it. I read the exact same argument on Iraq by Chris Hitchens a few months ago..but seems like the US is now all set to attack, invade and colonize Iraq. also, i am quite impressed by your knowledge of iraqi history. gajjab cha bro..

strategically speaking, the US is in much better position that North Korea. North Korea is being sidelined because of the fear of China's involvement in the war.

Bhedo ji well-written! But as you can see, I have my pet peeves and personal agendas for the people (and children) living within the homes of America... and ofcourse a taxpayer's expectations on the basic functional needs being fulfilled(or not). Can I opt for peace, education and cleared up streets as opposed to a war with Iraq ...hajur? :)

Bhedo, vivid explanations. Michthesick, on your argument, I am going with the second one. I think that is the main reason why Bush wants to invade Iraq. Though most people support Bush administration going on war against Iraq, I support the humanitarian movement of the settlement of peace in all nations. We are, but human beings after all and there is no reason to claim superiority against a country which has financially, resourcefully and technically gone down to dust during these past couple of decades. It doesn't come to me as a surprise when Turkey agreed to host US soldiers and bombers in their soil for a possible invasion of Iraq. Turkey has requested billions of dollars in aids in exhange for US troops entering their territory to open up a possible 'northern front' intrusion. However, The World Counci of churches have casted their opinions to war against Iraq as saying 'immoral and contrary to UN principles'. The pentagon has front lined its ton and half soldiers for a military assault on Iraq across the gulf and the war could be just a fortnight away. Tens of thousands of troops are in Kurwait and possible thousands more to arrive. Land-based combat aircraft have also been trickling into bases throughout the region. An awesome array of firepower is now all poised to strike. This is going to be a mighty high-tech invasion if it occurs. With vast quantities of munitions and digital networks enabling near 'real' time targeting and damage assessment, operations are expected to be conducting at a much quicker pace then was possible during the gulf war in early '90s. Behind the invasion, the job of boilstering Kuwait's own defences will fall, in part, to a multi-national force from Gulf state known as 'Peninsula Shield'. Tens of thousands of troops will engage in protecting Kuwait mostly from the Gulf regions. From strictly military point of view, the stage would appear to be set for possible encroachment. Sitara, plucky honey!!
