hi all, I am sure the resourceful people at Sajha can help me out in my research. I am working on a paper on Kathmandu for one of my classes. I am focusing on the informal trade in the footpaths of Ktm (esp the khasa ko sasto saman). If you know of any articles in newspapers, magazines, recent survey, or even your opinions on this issue, please let me know. This is going to be an academic report so please respond accordingly. I was in Nepal recently and after 5 p.m. , in the area in Lagankhel and ratnapark , you find yourself in midst of a market that didnot existed before in such greater proportion. You start wondering : 1) Where did these vendors come from? Does it have something to do with the maoist problem in the country? 2) How are the goods procured and at such low price? 3) Is this affecting the consumption pattern in Kathmandu and who are the consumers? (midclass, low class etc) 4) Is this type of trade affecting the economy of Nepal as whole? What might be the consequence , is this night trade going to thrive in the capital? I would appreciate a lot if all Sajhaites could dwell a minute on this topic, and give me their opinions. (student, journalists, officers and all) thanks Inku
