New research published by scientists from America’s prestigious
Princeton University this week, suggests that fast food is more
addictive than heroin and tobacco.
According to psychologist John Hoebel and his fellow researcher
neuroscientist Anne Kelley (from the University of Wisconsin) food
stuffs including burgers, fizzy drinks and French fries (chips) are
habit forming, with ever increasing quantities required to sustain
consumers’ satisfaction levels.

Sniffer Dogs Separate Suspicious Friends

Introducing random sniffer dog searches in schools means cannabis
smokers often find themselves isolated, according to Sussex policeman
PC
Andy Hart, a school drugs liaison officer.

Speaking to a local newspaper in Brighton, PC Hart said the dogs often
pick out students who’ve simply been in close proximity with cannabis
users, focusing the authorities’ attention on those who mix with
druggies.

"Where this has happened in schools elsewhere, known users have been
ostracise,” said PC Hart.

“No one wants to sit next to them."

The three schools involved are Blatchington Mill, Cardinal Newman and
Hove Park, which all claim they don’t have particularly worse drug
problems than any other schools in the South Coast area.

Police Shut Down 2 More New York Superclubs

New York police closed down the Sound Factory and Club Exit last Friday (February 7), following extensive undercover investigations into drug sales at both Manhattan superclubs.

Police sources told the New York Post that both clubs’ doors could be shuttered permanently, striking a virtual death blow against the cities’ once legendary nightlife.

"Thanks to our detectives' hard work, we are sending a clear message to nightclub owners,”Police Commissioner Ray Kelly told the New York Post.

“If you allow illegal drugs to saturate your business and endanger your patrons, we'll shut you down.”

The Club Exit closure immediately impacted on local superstar DJ Junior Vasquez, who’d recently been dominating the venue’s Saturday nights, spinning from a custom built DJ booth costing a reported $8million dollars. Following the closure, he posted a visual response to the raid on his website, in the shape of a police style baseball cap bearing the logo “NYPD invites you to rest Sunday Morning”

The closure of both clubs, not long after authorities destroyed internationally renowned superclubs Twilo, Tunnel and Limelight, could signal the end for legitimate clubbing in New York, with few investors likely to risk putting more money into nightlife. And with the upcoming RAVE act almost certain to outlaw dancing nationwide, the future for American clubland looks bleak.

“Excess in every field is frowned upon,” the Sunday Times reported last month on the new Puritanism sweeping the States.

“Alongside a religious revival and the consolidation of officially sponsored conservatism has come an un-American aversion to old-fashioned enjoyment.”

Competition in sports or business tends to be healthy and in friendship it probably has a place but somehow I always thought one of the main benefits of true friendship was the provision of a safe, nurturing space, free of the competition of the human jungle.

Having somewhere where you can relax and let your guard down, knowing the other won’t use it as an opportunity to take advantage of you, is the essence of true friendship and the opposite of competition, which is always about gaining an advantage over someone.

Obviously creating such a space can only occur when both parties have agreed to stop competing with each other in favour of implicitly or overtly helping each other, by pooling whatever advantages are appropriate to the friendship.

In fact, the more I think about it, the more I realise that one major criterion for true friendship is the agreement not to compete, so I have to say that if the currency of your friendship is competitiveness, then it’s not a true friendship.

So, no, it’s not a good thing to be competitive with friends.”

Bush & Blair’s War-Mongering Terrorises Most Brits

Mainstream media and organisers of London’s demonstration against war on Iraq are expecting over one million British citizens to march in Central London this weekend, with the US and UK administrations cited as the principal engines behind the march’s amazing popularity.

“Our best recruiting agents have been Bush and Blair,” Stop The War Coalition spokesman Andrew Murray told the Guardian this week.

“The only people we are not attracting are high Tories (Conservatives) and New Labour cheerleaders.”

The Daily Mirror also challenged Tony Blair’s unconditional support for President Bush, warning instead of Al Qaida’s ‘truly deadly peril on our own doorstep.’

“None of us wants to feel at risk. None of us wants to feel threatened. None of us wants to die at the hands of terrorists,” The Mirror pointed out.

“None of us wants to see tanks and armed soldiers at our airports or on our streets. Yet that is what’s happening- not because of Saddam Hussein but because of our involvement with George Bush.”

“Firstly, you have to ask what you’re trying to save the world from – itself perhaps? That’s impossible, so yes, it’s foolish.

Secondly you need to question the whole concept of there being a world, as in ‘the world’.

All you can validly state is that you live in your own personal world and of course everyone else equally inhabits his or her own such universe.

And yes, you can look about your personal world, or rather your perception of it, and see what aspects can be saved, or more precisely, healed. So where you start the process is within yourself, where your view of the world originates and heal or save that part.

Save yourself, in other words, and the world- your world- will save itself.”
