It is hard to believe, but the whole incident has become laughing stock of the world.. esp when promoted in Dave Letterman's Top Ten list on Tuesday night.... -dk

Follwing letter was submitted to the CBS.COM WEBSITE... I would request all proud Nepalis to respond to this outrageous incident by clicking on to the FEEDBACK logo at the bottom of the CBS.COM website. You may see the 'top ten' posted at http://www.cbs.com/latenight/lateshow/# To: C.B.S & Dave Letterman From: A Hurt Nepali Are American jokes made to hurt a country that is already deep in mourning over the loss of their beloved Royal Family? This is in reference to the Dave Letterman Top Ten Excuses for a Gun Totting Yankee Fan aired recently, when Mr. Letterman and his audience got a kick out of making a sick joke (#5 "You never know when you're going to run into a member of the Nepalese royal family"). This looks like nothing but pathetic and typically American disregard for people in the rest of the world, not even sparing people who are in deep shock and in mourning and make them the butt of your jokes...too cheap too lowly! It would be in the best interests of Mr. Letterman and C.B.S. to air an apology immediately for hurting the sentiments of 23 million grieving Nepalis, before you face the curse of every Nepali forever. Sincerely, A hurt Nepali

What kinda reaction would you expect from people--Dave Letterman, of all people -- after a love-sick prince went on a drunken killing spree, after the murderer was named king, after the new king said the gun went off by accident. Did the king really think the world would buy that story? I've been told that Nepal is backward, that the incident is a perfect plot for a Shakespearan-era play, that it's a "mickey mouse" country, a "strange" country where Maoists support monarchy when it suits them, condemn it when it doesn't, where arranged marriages, class and caste discrimation still exist. Wake up, Nepal! 21st century is here! It's time Nepalis got out of the grip of Rana-Shah aristocracy and their crap that has plagued them for centuries, robbed them of their national property, pride and have left them even poorer and desperate now that the most of the ruling family has gone....What are Nepalis mourning for...for their beloved king?....mourn for what has happened to the country and its people...and be concerned about what a bleak future it has.

Mr jai Nepal, You seem to have forgotten where you came from? Society is always developing and only when we compare our Nepal to country like US, it seems that Nepal is going nowhere. Whatever may have happened in Nepal, Lettermen does not have right to make f;un of Nepali people. We adore our royal family and we mourn for them. Just like David Lettermen and people like him adore Pope. Time doesn't stop neither does it move backward. Society always moves forward.

You don't think discriminations exists here? Do you even read books or read newspapers at all? Dicrimination exists everywhere. And Nepal was probably the only country where everyone lived happily. Atleast bahun and newar or Gurung were not in battle?

Hey, why are you being so serious about a comment made in a late night show..David letterman show is not Larry King Live or Nightline or Dateline...and American media/entertainment don't stop at making a joke or two about the Pope either. Take it easy... worry about how to amend the reputation nepalis have now earned -- that we're a bunch of stupid, gullible people who've long been suppressed and oppressed by autocratic, moody, crazy, bossy, erratice, tyrannical ways of the ruling class in Nepal. What say you??

I don't think tellling American Media that we didn't like their comment is a bad way to erdaicte this new mockery that we have received from everyone! You shouldn't be ashamed of what happened in Nepal. Nepal didn't go bomb Hiroshima or caused war in Vietnam. We haven't done any harm to anyone. This is what you have to take(literal meaning) when you live in other people's country. We have to be suppressed by American Media??

Yea, right, Kanchu. Worry about ijjit at a time like this. If Nepalese weren't so used to going hajur to everyone with a little power maybe this sort of thing wouldn't happen. Yeah, let's keep hidden what every Nepalese knows--exactly what Jai Nepal said--people are foolish and gullible and ruled by out of control leeches. But hey, maybe we can keep it hidden now! Maybe they'll buy this story of an accident! Sure, write Letterman. Whatever. You've got freedom of speech here. Take advantage of it, cause when you go back (if you go back) who knows? I didn't see Letterman, and yeah it hurts, but it's funny too in a black humor kind of way. And Letterman's writers have freedom of speech too you know.
