Hi all, The FIFTH Entrepreneurs' Forum will take place in Hotel Radisson next week in Kathmandu. Our speaker this time is: Mr. Padma Jyoti, chairman of The Jyoti Group -- one of the largest conglomerates in Nepal. Mr. Jyoti is a former Boston Nepali in that he holds an an MBA from MIT's Sloan School of Management. For more on The Jyoti Group: http://www.yomari.com/jyoti/jyoti.html With about 50 or so invited young Nepali entrepreneurs and businessmen and women in their 20s and 30s in the audience, Mr. Jyoti will share his perspectives about doing business in Nepal. The tone will be informal, leading to more a frank sharing of ideas and views. There will be a Q & A session, which, as in the past, promises to be lively. Since there is really no point in having a well-publicized talk program if you are not going to share the content of the talk program with interested folks who cannot be there, we have workewd out an arrangement with Madan Lamsal's New Business Age monthly, which will do a feature on the speaker and his/her presentation. Plus, a TV program about the talks, led by capable TV professionals in Nepal, is also in the works. BUSINESS Politicians should pay heed to economic issues: Padma Jyoti "Himalayan News Service", Kathmandu, March 6, As a guest speaker at Entrepreneurs’ Forum of Business Service Aadhar, Padma Jyoti, president of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry today observed that political parties should look at economic issues seriously as the nation is already going through an economic crisis due to Maoist insurgency. Jyoti who had been to Switzerland two weeks back to discuss abuot the conflict and peace process in Nepal with other intellectuals said, "Today's main challenge is to restore peace in the country and increase business and economic activities for uplifting the living standard of the people." The world is becoming more competitive by the day, therefore, we should all strive towards coping with the challenges brought forth by globalisation and market liberalisation, said Jyoti adding, "Everybody's job at this point of time is to think how the peace process can move ahead and resolve the conflict."Jyoti observed that bad governance has stalled the development process in the country which we cannot not be allowed to continue any further. We should understand moderan economic realities for the betterment of our business, says Jyoti adding, " “How can companies work and economic activities be boosted need to be understood by political parties,"he added. It will ultimately help in restoring permanent peace in the country and increase economic activities for the betterment of national economy. It will also create more employment in rural areas, said Jyoti. Maoist affected areas need to be explored for developing more business and employing locals for their betterment which will bring permanent peace, Jyoti concluded.
