Thought everyone would be interested in this. I got from info-nepal.com. Kantipur Publications, the publisher of the Kantipur Nationaly Daily and The Kathmandu Post have reported that its Managing Director Kailash Sirohiya and Director Binod Gyawali, along with the Editor-in-Chief of Kantipur Yuvaraj Ghimire have been taken into custody by the police for publishing an article by leader of the Maoist insurgency group Baburam Bhattarai. Kantipur National Daily is the largest Nepali language newspaper, and its sister publication The Kathmandu Post is the largest English language daily published in Nepal. Bhattarai wrote a very strongly worded article in Wednesday's Kantipur denouncing the recent massacre of the royal family, and asking the Nepali people not to accept the new king. He claims in the article that the entire event was part of "a grand design of the Indian expansionist forces who had grown impatient with King Birendra for showing softness toward the maoists movement." Bhattarai and his maoist party had maintained a strong anti-monarchy position during King Birendra's reign and had been openly advocating for republicanism. But in stark contrast to this earlier stance, Bhattarai in the current article, praises the Shah dynasty kings as having protected the sovereignty of Nepal by fighting against, first the British, and then, the Indian "expansionism" over the past two and half centuries. In what may be perceived as a move to cash in on the popularity of the slain king Birendra and people's distrust of the current king Gyanendra, he asks the Nepali people to reject the current royal establishment as a "puppet of Indian expansionist forces". The Nepali people show great distrust toward its southern neighboring country India and its intentions toward their country.

Gyanendra is already showing what he is really made up of. Freedom of speech will be retracted from Nepali citizens. We have to fight for those journalists. WHy not arrest his son Paresh for killing 4 people? Going after journalist is a very cowardly act. Those policemen, are they puppets or what! First they should realize that they are citizens of Nepal. All police and army officers should resign from their post and be a real Nepali citizen. According to ancient prophecy, this dude Gyanendra have only two more years in this earth. He is 53 and all our kings so far have died before reaching 55 except Birendra who died when he was 55. So why not do something good for the country? Is his brain full of horse manure or what? My plea to tourists: If you do go to Nepal please don't stay in Soaltee hotel because it belongs to Gyanendra. My plea to Nepali citizens: If you smoke, smoke bidi...don't smoke surya churot. Violence doesn't solve anything. All Nepali kermacharya don't go to work, stay home. If Gandhi can gain independence from Britian and if MLK gained equal rights for all African American. Why can't we Nepali gain our freedom from Gyanendra and those Panches who are all eyed and ears to be mantri again. No matter what happens we shouldn't let those Panches become mantri again. They are hungry already. They couldn't ghus khanu for ten years and now they are ready to strip Nepali ganta off from all the Aids that we receive.

It is a very bad news. I support Kantipur family in this moment. They have right to publish an article from any person they think is good for their paper. Dr Bhattarai isn't a stranger either. Nobody really tried to muzzle him before. He is rather a liberal force in Maoist group who will be instrumental in safelanding the rebels once the group feels the heat of public apathy. When he was in parliament, he was a leader of a national party!

Relax body, Relax, those arrested journalists get popularity (note: - please do not misunderstand it). I have strong support for them of doing bravery in this critical situation. What's the hell Prime Minister Girija Prasad doing? What's the hell Madhav Kumar Nepal doing? Reetu...
