Do Palendromes exist in the Nepali Language?
bhedo Posted on 03-Mar-03 05:52 PM

If you type this in devnagiri, it'll be a palendrome, I'd say

Ritu ko turi
bhedo Posted on 03-Mar-03 06:28 PM

A G C G C T
T C G C G A

Does this ring a bell to anyone? Yup, a nucleotide sequence. Where else to look for Palindromes than DNA segments!
bill_pusateri Posted on 03-Mar-03 06:46 PM

Never odd or even. But lets stick to the topic. Do they exist in Nepali Bhasa?
whine and chij Posted on 03-Mar-03 07:30 PM

bill,

thanks, never heard the never odd or even one before. that's a good one. according to my source, the answer to your original questions is no, of course.

also, the one about ritu sure ain't a palindrome, as i'm sure an old nepal hand like you noticed right off.
bhedo Posted on 03-Mar-03 07:31 PM

Yeah, malam(ointment) is not a palindrome.
bhedo Posted on 03-Mar-03 07:43 PM

Hello, where did you go? Are you banging your head against the wall? Malam is of course a palindrome, as is malayalam.

If I wanted to, I myself could come up with complete sentence that is a palindrome.
As I said, Nepali is a syllabic script, so obviously, we cannot apply the same rule as in english, which means that "kaka ko kaka" IS a palindrome. Ritu ko turi, I understand, due to that rashwa dirgha bulshit.

Ritu Ko Turi... wrong combination... Ritu suggests a feminine name and Turi is a masculine body part...Correct: Ritu Ko Kuri=> no palindrome. Ha ha ha.. ki kaso?

Thutuno ra Mutuno jogaunu hai sathi ho.....
pizzah Posted on 03-Mar-03 08:30 PM

PALPA? could that be one Bill Pustari?
bill_pusateri Posted on 03-Mar-03 08:51 PM

Sorry Pizzah, Palpa does not qualify. The word or phrase must begin and end with the same letter so that it is spelled the same forward and backward. Palpa whould have to be spelled Palap to be in this catagory. Are there phrases which, when written in Devnagari, meet these requirements?
bhedo Posted on 03-Mar-03 09:06 PM

Harris is absolutely correct. Palpa is a Nepali palindrome. In Devnagiri
"Pa" is one letter. Do not break it down any further. In other words, you shouldn't break it down into
P(khutta taneko) and A

Take it as one unit. As Harris pointed out
Malam
Rahar
Nawajiwan

are all palindromes.
