Glorious Tulum and Brilliant Valladolid ‘Sacbe’ – White Path Shone and reflected in The glory of moon and Mayans Now too, It shines on those Ruins – unobstructed, They had left a very Long time ago. The great civilization Now only ruins Some reduced to rubble Of stones “This is the Great Temple of Descending Gods” And this Senorita, is ‘The Observatory.’ Ah just look at the symmetry of Chechen Itza! I gasp for some fresh air and I ask silently, “where, Amigo, are those Magnificent platforms The virgins and children were Lead to? Can we see the blood if we look Closely enough?” Your ruins mesmerize me, And leave me awestruck. At the magnificence and at The brutality you hide Under hundreds cold stone steps, The secret you whisper Amongs yourself in the ‘House of Columns,’ - Civilization, a mere two step before A wonderful ruin? **** Meeting a Gecko (On My Way to a 'Cenote') He, very delicately Raised its pointy Head and bright, shiny eyes Turned around And, for a moment We stared across, He crossed my windy Path with its Curled tail waving - Goodbye. Hey NK, lucky you! So, you headed down south to the Yucatan Peninsula, huh? Parying hard at Senor Frog's in Cancun? Chichen Itza and Tulum! Did you get to go to Cozumel as well. Sure beats that horrid new england wintery days soaking sun in good ole Mexico. ;) I guess you just barely avoided the rowdy Spring Breakers.

Thank you all! IF, that is a wonderful idea. As I speak, I am scanning some picutres. I will see if they are worthy of Sajha.com. Dr. No, New kid in the block or just a new nick name? No I did not make it to Cozumel. .. to tell you the truth I missed the excitement that comes with 2 ft. of snow. But no doubt it is nice to swing in a hammock looking at the emerald green sea. 9 degree in Boston and 95 in Tulum! ha! ??! ji, I thought you stopped visiting Sajha after that sushi episode ;). Hey, Iam really glad you did not give up on me. Prempujari (ni), Yeah, these days it does not take much a thread to disappear into the Black hole of sajha. Wasting 30 minutes of your precious time just to look for this! San, are you listening? ?? :) [i nearly added the 'D' word after San. Phew! Caught myself at the crucial moment] :)) Sitara, I wonder why my mail thing does not work. I have set aside some time to read your Vermillion tonight - phursad ma. Rusty the language un-challenged Sen~or! Ihave no clue what you said up there. Good things? I hope. :) Trikal, mero china herideney haina bhanya? Do I really have to divulge the year too? !

Trikal jyu, do NK a favor please! She is not ready to divulge the year. Instead, you can make CHINA from the year 1968 to 1983 ( let's hope thatshe is in between 20-35). Spending time on fifteen alternate CHINAS for her is worthier than that for 15 different persons like me! At least, I think so!! NK, i never thought title of your posting can also be in nepali 'KEHI SAMJHANA!' SAJHA MA AJHAI KE KE DEKHNA BANKI CHHA. :) Good poem!

Almost missed this thread. Arko paali, title ma "Poem by NK" bhannus hai? Sutukka aayera harauna bhayena! If I were as talented as you, NK, I might also have tried to write a similar poem on the ruins of Angkor. Since I'm not, it's a pleasure to take refuge in your beautiful expression and sensitivity. Like always, if I can add without flattering you too much :)

NK, Being your great fan, I always adimired your poems. I am amazed to see you back. This is very nice poem. It seems like you had a wonderful trip of south America. I've not been in South America, but I have been to Honduras, Khopan... a great historical capitol of Mayan Civilization. It was really good experience to see different civilization than our Indus valley civilization. The Maya make up the largest homogenous group of Indians north of Peru, inhabiting a vast area that encompasses Mexico's Yucatan peninsula and parts of the states of Tabasco and Chiapas, as well as Guatemala, Belize and parts of western Honduras and El Salvador. I do not want to bore you with my knowledge of maya civilization because I am a history major... More later! PremCharo "Love Bird":)

so premcharo is our long lost hahoogurji? premCharo, I would have loved to hear more on Maya culture. Isolated Freak mentioned Aztec. But, as far as I know Mayans inhabiated Yucatan Peninsula not Aztects. I think they (Aztects) lived in what is now called Mexico city. Is that right? Were Aztecs before or after them? Well, since Spaniards conqured Mayans in the 16th century, Aztecs cannot be after them? or did these two civilazation existed in parallel? Or are these questions too dumb???:)) *** Paschim talks about me being talented! Surya ko agade batti. nonname might not believe I just said that. You see noname, since my mother came to visit me I have been talking in Nepali non stop. This is the result of it. In the mean time I should not forget to Gurl_Interrupted for her encouraging comments. That leaves my dear friend Biswo. Biswo, I know I have been sort of gayab. It is called getting free of addiction. Now I control Sajha, not vice versa. :))

NK ji Since you're curious about Maya Civilization.... the Maya-Toltec culture was born 3,000 years before Christ while Europe was still considered a land of barbarians. Scientists consider the Maya-Toltec civilization to have become the most developed indigenous culture in the world. Without a doubt, it was the most advanced in Middle America. Copan’s Pyramids, temples, and stone monuments justify the claim. They are in the northwestern zone of Honduran territory, near the border with Guatemala. At Copan, Mayan structures date back to at least 1000 years BC. Nevertheless, in the 10th century AD, this colossal metropolis of 3,450 buildings and more than 15,000 inhabitants, was mysteriously abandoned. So were several other Mayan city-states. The archaeological zone of the Mayas extends from the Tehuantepec Isthmus in Mexico to Honduran territory in Central America. Today, Guatemala, Belize and Honduras encompass the land that once belonged to them. In this vast geographical region, there are a number of archaeological ruins. Scientists come to unveil the mysteries of hieroglyphics, engraved stelae, altars, ceramic and jade objects in the land of the ancient centers, like Copan, Tikal, Chichen Itza and Uxmal. While the area is rich in minerals, the inhabitants only utilized the precious stones, particularly jade, and some metals like gold and silver, with sumptuary ends in mind. The Copan Valley is the site of some of the most important sources of information on the ancient Maya civilization. The ancient city of Copan has always been referred to as the most artistically advanced and elaborate of all the Maya cities. The principal attractions are the main park, Las Sepulturas, Los Sapos, the museum located in the town, and the 'tree stones' or stelae surrounding the valley. I will write you more later...I am tired Historical Charo = "Prem Charo"
