Evil springs from fear and hatred. As people generally hate only what they fear, these two go hand in hand. Take away someone’s fear and evil slips away pretty quickly. Give them a reason to love and you can say good-bye to it forever. Selfishness is the root of all evil says Guardian in-house philosopher Guy Browning. |

US Authorities Seek Taliban-Style Ban On Music & Dancing Nightlife in America could be outlawed within a year, according to an alarming ‘Action Alert’ issued this week by civil liberties group the Drug Policy Alliance (DPA). The threat comes from both the notorious RAVE Act and the Clean-up Act, another bill threatening 9 year sentences for promoters behind ‘any rave, dance, music or other entertainment event’ that might attract some attendees that would use or sell drugs, the DPA warned. “If either the Clean-up Act (H.R. 834) or the RAVE Act (H.R. 718) becomes law, Congress could effectively ban live music and dancing, as well as any other event that might attract someone that would use drugs (essentially any event that draws a large crowd),” said the DPA. “It doesn't matter if the concert promoter and property owner try to prevent people from using drugs. Nor does it matter if the vast majority of people attending the event are law-abiding citizens that want to listen to music, not do drugs.” Both puritanical bills could effectively outlaw all licensed music events and even private house parties and barbecues, since homeowners could face 20 year prison sentences if police discovered a single person smoking a joint at their gathering. |

What’s the Best Way to Distance Yourself from a Bullying Friend? Barefoot Doctor: “Assertiveness is the key here, gentle persistent assertiveness. In fact, it’s a lack of assertiveness which is the root of this problem, since it prompts the actions of the bullying friend. Distancing is not always the best route, sometimes it better to confront the bully using basic communication skills, saying something like ‘I feel uncomfortable because I think you are trying to abuse or dominate me- I'd like us to get along as equals’ repeated over and over again, no matter what the response is until the penny finally drops. But I'd personally say the best thing is to be assertive by staying away altogether. Sorry, this question never really made sense to me - my honest answer would be to tell the person to f*ck off and sod the consequences.” Visit Barefoot Doctor’s new website below where he’s available to offer you Taoist healing suggestions. |
