Hockey

Rangers signed Oiler's best offensive player, Anson Carter for the final playoff push.
After winning the Stanley cup in 1994 and missing playoffs about 6 times since then, Rangers are doing everything possible to goto the playoffs. Firing of the rookie coach and making the GM (Glen Sather) the head coach, spending tonns of cash on expensive players show how serious they are.
Anson Carter might probably be the first black player in the blue shirt (do verify). 2 years ago we had the first Indian origin hockey player here, Manny Malhotra.
One thing for sure, Rangers have a very thin chance of going to playoffs. But if they make it to playoff, they probably will continue till the finals; with arsenal of players like Bure, Kovalev, Carter, Leetch, Nedved, Holik, Messier, Kasparaitis they are like Yankees of Hockey, only not winning.

Baseball

There was a big fight yesterday between Mike Piazza (NY's most prominent sportsman) and pitcher Guillerimo Mota(Dodgers). It was a bench clearing fight, a residual effect of last year, when Guillerimo had hit Piazza and Piazza shoved him in the bullpen.

Football

Giants recently released Jason Sehorn (husband of that actress in, I guess Law & Order). The release was an expensive trade for the Giants. After his knee injury, Sehorn wasn't the same player as he was.
Luke Pettigout and Ike Hilliard were notable players resigned.

Jets were able to sign KR Chad Morton, but lost John Hall (Kicker) and Damien Robinson. They are also gonna loose a part of one of the best combo of the NFL last year, Laveraneus Coles (another part was Chad Pennington) to RedSkins who tried to steal Chad Morton earlier. Coles is offered the one of the highest amount to a wide receiver($35 million) and Jets probably won't match the offer.
