This isn't the most important tidbit of info, but it was interesting to watch David Letterman last night. I don't know if anyone caught it, but in his opening monologue he had a quick line about a writer calling him on a cellphone to ask if he wanted a joke about the Nepalese royal family. After which Letterman winces, Paul (the bandleader) laughs, and someone says, "Inside." (As in, "inside joke.") The point being, no, he didn't want another joke on THAT subject. My sense is that subtle little interchange meant the Letterman show had gotten flooded with emails from pissed off Nepalis about the previous joke. I hope my take on that is right. If so, it's a small demonstration of how raising a collective voice can work. A minor matter, but interesting.

I don't watch Lettermen anymore. Jay Leno is funnier. Maybe he should be an assistant to Leno so that he doesn't have to depend on other peoples' misery to thrive his carrier.

I think Letterman is not wrong in making that joke. All he said is Nepalese royal family member can be aggresive. One needs some security from them when he runs into them. What's wrong? Now, see Paras is one male member left in our royal family, besides the King. I shall suggest every Nepali to have some security measure esp when there is probability of running into him. I am serious. If your girlfriend is beautiful and you want to dance with her in X-Zone or any other disco, make sure you are fully capable of protecting her. We all know what our prince did with an African Diplomat in a discotheque in New Delhi. Letterman was making a logical conclusion as a joke.

I don't think Lettermen knew who Paras was? Girls are capable of protecting themselves if we provide self-defense programs in Nepal.

Nepaliji: Very interestingly, all the foreigners I talked to knew about Paras, and they knew Nepalese were worrying because of Paras.

As above. I agree with you Bishwo. All Letterman did was to voice what many of us are afraid to speak publicly. No harm has been done to Letterman with that letter. Anyone of us tenses up a bit whenever we run into a Royal family member. All Letterman did was to verbally express that reaction to the royals. There is freedom of speech here. Something we dont have in Nepal as the newspapers editors will confirm. They spoke their opinion and are now is jail. Do you favor that action? I wasn't a Letterman watcher before, but I am now.
