Dancing Civil Liberties Activists Fly Down to Miami Civil Liberties campaigners from the Drugs Policy Alliance will be attending the Miami Winter Music Conference next week, to urge the dance music industry to fight the proposed new laws threatening the future of US nightlife. "As you may know, Congress is considering three bills that could land many event promoters, bar and nightclub owners, and stadium owners in jail if even one person uses drugs at their events," the DPA said in their latest newsletter. "Even as you read this e-mail, however, politicians in Washington, DC are plotting to quickly make these laws and give the government broad new power over your life. They will succeed, unless you act now," they warned. |

"The Fat Brigade seem all too visible everywhere in the US of A; on the crowded sidewalks, cramming into the narrow seats on the subways, or lumbering their lard-asses up escalators in department stores." (Telegraph) Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh empathises with fuller figured Americans in his new Letters from America style column in the Daily Telegraph. |

Bent's Own Axis of Evil: George W Bush, NME and Zero 7 "I'm not exactly sure how far Hawaii is from America but I don't think it's much further than Britain is, in other words we're becoming just another US state. And what annoys me particularly is the fact we're given no choice. There's huge public disapproval of the whole war thing but it doesn't change anything. At one point a few years ago it looked like things were calming down in the world then in the last five years, everything has gone terrible. And the one person you don't want in charge of America when shit starts happening is the son of George Bush. He's fighting his Dad's war basically, and I don't want any part of it. I was talking about this to my girlfriend the other day because we've got a little baby and I was asking her, 'Do we really want to stay in this country?' They're going to start a war regardless of what people think and it actually makes me really upset . . .[more]" |

Small Dick Men: British Blokes Fail To Measure Up 20 something British blokes are flocking to cosmetic surgery clinics to have penis extensions operations, according to a feature in this week's Independent. The newspaper reported that over 10% of all operations carried out by the Harley Medical Group's chain of 10 clinics were penis enlargement operations, and theorized that porn films are making men insecure. "The 'normal' flaccid (soft) penis is only 3.5 inches long and 3.9 inches in circumference," they revealed. "Erect, it is 5.1 inches long and 4.9 inches in circumference." Patients having extensions are typically being aged between 22 and 37 and are subjecting themselves to treatments including liposuction fat transfer and scarily 'suspending weights from their penis two or three times a day for several months'. According to the Guinness Book of Records the world's largest penis is 16inches, calculated by averaging its soft and hard lengths (making the average Brit bloke 4.3 inches long) |

Is Men Wearing Make-Up A Good Thing ? "That depends on how they make up. It could make them look like a cheap tart if they don't do it with care, but otherwise, sure, why not? Newsreaders, prime ministers, and even presidents wear makeup, let alone countless pop stars from David Bowie onwards, so it's really no big deal. However, as soon as a person starts paying that much attention to their surface image, subtly altering or enhancing the effect of their features, then they will also subtly signal 'fake'. Not that there's anything wrong with that - we all know this world is mostly illusory and a grand charade, though just as with women, most people take others more seriously when they go natural (or just use a teeny bit of eye-liner and foundation). But all things considered, who cares what other people think? - Make up, dress up and make believe as much as you like-we're only really here to enjoy ourselves." Evil springs from fear and hatred. As people generally hate only what they fear, these two go hand in hand. Take away someones fear and evil slips away pretty quickly. Give them a reason to love and you can say good-bye to it forever.- Selfishness is the root of all evil says Guardian in-house philosopher Guy Browning. Bryan Zentz- It Could Easily Be the Beginning of World War 3 I didnt vote for Bush, actually I didnt vote for anyone, the choices werent there, though perhaps I should have voted in hindsight. Theres going to be a domino effect, with retaliation escalating it. Its interesting how so many of the issues revolves around religion. You hear the word God brought up so often, God bless this, God is with us, but nobody is acting like theyre dedicated to what their religion is saying, theres no humbleness. Obviously none of these people trust the God they believe in . . . |

"I want to stress very much that this has nothing to do with dance music or free expression. This has everything to do with drugs, drug dealing and young people dying." (San Francisco Examiner) Rick Oules, President of California's Narcotics Officers' Association, explains why police want to introduce a 1am curfew for all electronic music events in California. Prince Harry- The New Robert De Niro? Prince Harry appeared on stage last week in a production of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, in a performance which suggested his notoriously delinquent behaviour could have been prompted by the young prince practising Robert De Niro style method acting. The top teenage Toff reportedly 'stole the show' for his uncannily accurate portrayal of a drunk, the Telegraph said this week, in a review of the Eton College production. "Harry pretended, at considerable length, to relieve himself (urinate) over his shoes. I am confident the Queen was most amused," the paper's gossip columnist revealed. Whether the pot-smoking royal has Hollywood ambitions remains unclear, though with his film star looks and popular red hair, could the young prince be angling for a remake of Midnight Express? |

Sex, Lies and Brain Expansion Telling lies and practising deception stimulates the brain and improves intelligence according to new research carried out by German and US scientists. "Lies are an essential component of our social intelligence," Professor Daniel Langleben told Brain & Spirit magazine. "Essentially, it requires more brain activity to lie than to tell the truth." The new revelations could explain the findings of a survey of 2,000 women by Top Sante magazine last year, which discovered that one in six British women reported to have got away with secret affairs. According to the magazine's survey just 25% of the cheating ladies' blokes ever found out, while women 'nearly always' discovered their men's infidelity. |
