Prices of POL products increased

KATHMANDU, March 25 - The government has increased the prices of petroleum product steeply citing differences between the import price and the prices at which they are currently sold in the Nepalese markets.
A statement issued by the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) said the decision was reached after a meeting of the cabinet and in recommendation of the Nepal Oil Corporation.
According to the revised prices, one litre of petrol will now cost Rs. 56, four rupees more than the existing price. Similarly, diesel will now cost Rs. 35.5 per litre. Kerosene Rs. 28 per litre under open market while it will cost Rs. 23 per litre under ration system under which each family can get 10 litres per month. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has now been put at Rs. 700 an increase of Rs. 50.
The statement also says that the government will form a committee to monitor any fluctuation of prices in POL product to oversee the prices in Nepal. (rk)

just for the record: this is the second time the present Chand govt has hiked the petroleum price.
