U DON'T LIKE YOUR FESTIVAL ?I KNOW U HAVE VERY INTERESTING FESTIVAL FAGU....THE FESTIVAL OF COLOUR...BUT NO ONE NEPALI PLAY FAGU IN NY OR ANY WHERE IN BEDESH?DID SOMEBODY PLAY FAGU IN BEDESH?AND ALSO I KNOW ABOUT YOUR SHIVARATRI BUT WHICH NEPALI CELEBRATE YOUR SHIVARATRI IN NY?

If I were King Gyanendra, I would be busying myself selling Nepal to India, because the way I see it, pani puri and dosa taste better than dhedo and gundruk(not mentioning Tama, because I love Tama).

But all nepali are not like you mentioned.
Every year in Laxmi puja we (family and friends) celebrate the tihar in the most traditional way with sel-puri, laxmi ko paitala, puja and of course deusi-bhaili.
Not just that - we invite our American friends and tell them that they have been eating cow the whole year and today is the day you pray to cow and celebrate her image as Goddess Laxmi. My american friends still remember and ask me when is the day to pray cow as goddess.
So we are trying... but if there are energetic people like you, let's get together and do something in a real NEPALI way .... to start with at least in NY and Boston.
Let's celebrate NEPALI New Year in Times Square this time! :)

well aru ta thaha choina malai.. hami chahi tihar mah bhailo kheleko thiyo.. nepali ko ghar ghar ma gayera.. HERE IN HOUSTON.... ani tass khelyo.. uumm sel roti khayo..
tika lagayo.... aru ke.. aba shiv ratri mah gaja tanne bhaneko.. gajai payena aba ke garne.. hamro galti thorai ho...
if u know who or wut u r.. then i believe u don't have to PROVE it to others..
i know i m nepali.. was born in nepal.. if i don't play bhailo or do anything on mah festival don't mean i ain't nepali...
n most importantly u need tyme fo all that.. how can u expect sumone working 6 dayz n more then 60+ hours a week.. go n play bhailo rather then resting..
i reckon not all nepalese r well-educated like ya to work less hour and make more money.. n also has plenty of tyme... n when we ll have people like ya in bidesh.. i m sure u won't have any complain...

last year, only time I remembered it was tihar time was when some nepali aunty --char kosh--- paari called me and asked if I wanted some sel and anarasa!
U cannot keep up with everything even if you want to..and we don't have to prove that we are nepali by celebrating the festivities, there's another simple way to do it....and since most of you disagree with me :) les keep out of that topic!

You have no clue what you said.
Do you know what belonging to someone really is.
A teacher used to come around to our school every once in a while, a very brilliant guy. But ofcourse very unheard.
He told us once what was the meaning of war and being occupied by someone would be.
He said "once someone else occupies your country, you are theirs, and there is not a thing you can do about it. The most horrible picture he created among a lot of others were, them raping anyone, like our family in front of us, and us not being able to do a thing.
And that does happen.
Think about it, if you are human, that is, cause bhedos wouldnt know about being free, would they?????

Forget organizations. I can bring 10 people at Times Sq. (provided weather is good and it is weekend). You bring 10 people. Then we are 20. Then you think we can celebrate Nepali New Year in Times Square?
(May be we can invite Bhedo too - to have ball dropping ceremony ! Just kidding!)

BTW, Houston has one of the small but nicest Nepali community except one poison guy ....may be you know...the chrisitian nepali dude who stopped the way to Nepali temple in Houston, brought split in the local organization and started parallal group...
All other Houston Nepalis are great.

Yeah! A agree with you that festival (chat-parba) is very important for every country.
You know we do celebrate many festival in NY and NJ tira not holi, but tihar Dasain Nepali new year and Nepal American friendship Association celbration, these four example tatai chhan k bhanya testo. I think Californian nepalies and bostanian nepalies also do just like NY & NJ.

I am who I am. I do what comes to me naturally. More importantly, I don't do things to prove I am this or that. So, if that makes me Nepali... fine. If that makes me Non-Nepali. That is fine, too. I, personally don't see the point in hanging on to this "identity thing". The world is dynamic. Times change, people change... and as far I can see, it is better to go with the flow than cling on to the past. Let others classify you as they please. As long as you are fine with who you are and what you do, why bother portraying a certain image?
