Top Ten Reasons, Baburam(?) and Journalists in the Jail

nepaligorkhali wrote "Top ten reasons why Dipendra went on a killing spree

10. Can’t have chicken four days in a row
9.Who made my girlfriend pregnant?(looking at Dhirendra)
8. I thought it’s just a toy gun.
7. Don’t I look good on this Military Uniform and gun on my hand?
6. I was just trying to copycat what my relatives did to their enemies
5. I’m Vishnu and I was trying to test my power
4. I can awake dead because I’m Vishnu
3. I was just trying to see what so special about Thakuri blood
2. I wanted to test if my grand mother’s heart break like thousands others who lost their children due to our mischief
1.And the number one reason why Crown Prince went on killing spree is ( give me some music Paul) Don’t you dare call me fag"

They say speak well of the dead. how can one speak well when the dead is a murderer. Yes, i for one, believe he did it. From all the accounts i have been reading, Dipendra seems to be our man of the hour. The small details may vary but so far he had the gun and the eyewitnesses and friends of e.w. point finger at him. Until recently this prince was notorious only for his drinking and being kicked out from Eaton. Past couple of years, it seems he was trying to mend his reputation - at least when you look at the article which was published the day before his murdersous rampage. So, thank you for keeping this in perspective who he was and what kind of family he came from.

Saying this I still think we need to support the government in charge who is trying to with their broken hand and heart, keep Nepal together. If it means throwing some patrakar in jail for now. All the mauka parasta should be banished when the country needs a single voice. I agree it is not the solution but this sends the message to be careful. there are times and there are times. we can talk about that elusive democracy when things are in order. Let the commission tell nepali people what they found out, first. And Nepali people should make up their mind what they really want. They say they don't want king and they are ready to shed blood when they think their king is not clean enough. if you don't want something then you don't want it period. you cannot have the cake and eat it too. Also, these netas who were elected in a democratic fashion are Nepali too, after all. Why are they so corrupt, anyway? Are they the prototype or anomaly? if they are our representative then are they representing what we are? Corrupt to the core?

Things are not black and white - most of the time. If it were then it would been much more easier to function. We operate in the grey area - most of the time. My issue is with Patrakar being in jail and a big cacophony about democracy being trampled. Is free speech is the litmus test of democracy? What about the other side of this free speech? The RESPONSIBILITY? Do people want free speech in the absoulute term? Do people have some idea what could be the end result of this? Should we start saying what Hitler said in his Mein Kampf? Why every democracy should be in the ‘chaap’ of the USA. Germany doesn’t allow Mein Kampf to be sold or produced. Only if your research required then you may with a special request. Should we start burning one's house because that person happen to be a corrupt monarch/person/neta? If burning flags constitutes an expression of free speech then why not burning a house? Where does one draw a line? If you do then what is your criteria? So, if you don't see this difference then all power to you. But if you do then why cannot it be : the country is in turmoil so for now we will have a curfew and we may have a martial law and, if some journalist don't excercise the appropriateness of the article then they may pay the price.

Hey if I am not going to be popular with this posting then such is life. Nobody promised me a rose garden.

Could not agree with you more. What is at stake here is national security. Bauburam's article had the potential to incite violence and anarchy. Kantipur published it. (Maybe Kantipur was scared NOT to publish it.) Can you imagine what would happen in the U.S. if Saddam Hussein wrote an article that asked all Americans to throw out George Bush...and the Washington Post published it? Can you imagine how the FBI and the SS would react? Most Nepalese - even the VERY educated ones still seem to believe that democracy should give everyone the right to walk into a crowded hall and yell "fire."

FYI...
The Big Dailies published the Unabomber's Manifesto without hesitation (or was it out of fear.. it is debatable...) It is not up to the authorities to decide what citizens can read.
Here is one link for that Manifesto if you are interested... http://www.ensu.ucalgary.ca/~terry/manifesto.html
When there are LEGAL means to pursue in cases like these, there is NO reason to justify the Kantipur Publications' people to be arrested cold blood. -dk
