Here's (one of) my problem(s) with hinduism. When I was little I was asked to respect the Gita because it was our "holy book" and i was also made to recite the verses that made no sense to me by people who said that would guarantee me an afterlife in swarga. Years after that I read various translations of the Gita and have come to respect it a lot now that I actually understand the words. Here's one thing I understodd. Krishna explicitly tells Arjun that following the doctrines of the Vedas is futile. The main aim of the whole discourse is to make Arjun take his bow back and go out there and fight the war. To me, this implies that Krishna wants all of us go on with our everyday lives without actually worrying about the consequences of our actions. Now here's the problem: Why do people give up thier work and start praying day in and day out? How can inactivity get us anything? If Hindus claim to actually follow teachings of Krishna, why do they pray?

The one that is widely quoted "karman-de-wa dhikarasthe, ma faleshu kadachana" is wrong. Scholars now say that, this line itself has some missing particles and the verse/stanza is not what Krishna said or that was originally written. I'll write more on this later, but thank's all for providing us with th jewels of Hindusim.
