If I am not wrong, nobody here is intersted in Baseball.
This is for those select few, who are.

DWI Posted on 31-Mar-03 04:11 PM

Mets lost big time tonight.

Did anybody watch the Toronto's opening day against Yankees? The game is on its way, but the opening ceremony was so much like NBA's. They had disco lights and cloud of artificial smoke covering the artificial turf. I guess a team like Blue Jays need such glitters.

But they cheered when the national anthem of US was sung, last time in a hockey game in Canada, they booed US national anthem.
DWI Posted on 31-Mar-03 04:55 PM

Jeter is injured, badly while trying to steal 2 bases at once. He was caught, but that's certainly is a bad news for Yanks.
AX Posted on 31-Mar-03 07:33 PM

DWI, thanks for starting the thread. Did not get to see the opening ceremony. Yankess played great. Rocket was outstanding. Pitched 6 shut out innings.

It was painful watching Jeter. I have personal experience dislocating shoulder. I can understand how much pain he was in. Hope it won't be long, we see him in the field. Yankess have not said anything about his status. He would be greatly missed, espcially his leadership.

And what's up with METS???
DWI Posted on 31-Mar-03 08:12 PM

Who do you guys think will win the National League and American League. Will Angels repeat or will Yankee regain the rings? What team are you rooting for?
DWI Posted on 31-Mar-03 08:12 PM

Cool.

Couldn't agree with you more on Jeter. He brings so many intangible things, off the field. Really felt bad. Ax, u know a lot about NY sports. If I am not wrong u're not from NY, are you?

I think Tom Glavine was feeling too cold today, it really was. We should be okay on Wednesday.

Rusty Posted on 01-Apr-03 06:57 AM

DWI,
I wish I could give some inputs here... I don't follow any baseball games....
AX Posted on 01-Apr-03 09:02 AM

yes, I am from NY. Here's my prediction for the 03 MLB:

AL East
1. Yankees - yes even after DJ's injury(hope he will regain his touch after he comes back from DL), Godzilla factor, 1-9 pure hitters, no pitchers want to face this lineup, you could see 1B, 2B, C in starting ALL STAR lineup and Bernie, DJ as sub. best starting pitcher 1-5. shaky bullpen. don't be surprise to see them signing big time reliever. Alfonso and Giambi will be in hunt for MVP. and yes the BOSS factor

2. Red SUX - Bambino curse!!! Pedro and Damon will have better season this time around. having Manny and Nomar is big lift. Mendoza is good acquisition (but his mileage has already been used by Yankees). stop whining about Yankees and their money, the players want to play for great tradition of Yankees, be it them from Japan, Cuba or other countries.

3.Blue Jays - need good starting pitcher. Carlos Delgado is a big time player.

4. Devil Rays - Lou factor

5. Orioles - are they still even league?
DWI Posted on 01-Apr-03 10:08 AM

No doubt.
Soriano, Jeter (now injured), Jiambi, Bernie, Godzilla rotation should produce atleast 1 run on average. That's a very formidable lineup and the pitching staff is equipped sharply as well.

I think Red Sox will repeat last year's performance. But might improve just enough to get to playoffs. AL east is very weak (except Yanks). Nomar was healthy last year too and Pedro had good season after initial burst. Speaking of Pedro, he still is the best pitcher out there.

Blue Jays and Devil Rays are just there to make some profits out of collective bargaining and profit sharing, not win.

West will have some tough match ups.

I think the most improved teams are TEXAS and CUBS.
AX Posted on 01-Apr-03 10:43 AM

AL Central:

1. Chicago White Sox: Ordonez should have MVP type season. BIG HURT will shine this season after few sub par seasons. Expecting 250 RBIs in between them. Colon is a great acquistion.

2. Minnesota Twins: have not done any great acquistions. will win 85 games. have OK starting pitching staff with. No big time name. HUNTER is heading for the ALL STAR and may win GOLD GLOVE again.

3. Cleveland Indians: still rebuilding??? Glad Shane Spencer will be playing full time as LF/RF/DH

5. Kansas City Royals: no clue

6. Detriot Tigers: no clue
DWI Posted on 01-Apr-03 03:05 PM

Ax, u're talking about Rey Ordonez? Yeah, I guess he will have a good season, but don't you hate that guy's guts now? KC and Detroit are just there to play meddlers. Twins might expect a good season, but not a solid beginning as last year's. Indians are again rebuilding, as you said. May be they will again win another championship eventually, the way they did earlier.

Yankees hit 8 runs again, and in way to hit more. Wilson has played well for Jeter's replacement, considering he was below 2.0 last year. Another intangible player in the pinstripes is Jorge Posada. Yankees can't afford to loose him now.
AX Posted on 02-Apr-03 12:30 PM

DWI, talking about Magglio Ordonez. He plays for the White Sox and we will be hearing
about his name coming year alot.

Isn't that ironic, ex METS goes to another team and start to play better. Rey Ordonez went 3-8 with 4 RBI and hit home run in 8th inning to tied the game.
AX Posted on 02-Apr-03 01:14 PM

AL West:

1. Oakland: Best 1-2-3 pitching rotation in the league. Miguel Tejada will be MVP hunt again. The team will have great chances if Tejada won't get traded. J. Dye is a great help. Ted Lilly should be good as 4th starter. One of the three Barry Zito, Tim Hudson or Mark Moudler could win the Cy Young Award.

2. Anaheim: Last year champions. intact as last year. Great outfielders. not that great pitching rotation. Offesne of T. Salmon, G. Adnerson, T. Glaus and D. Erstad should carry the team. Eckstien is the team energizer.

3. Seattle: No big signing as well. Ichiro will have ALL STAR caliber season. Great bullpen. Not that good of a starting pitching beside Freddy Garcia. Boone should have great season.

4. Texas: superb batting order from 2-5. No doubt AROD is the best player in the game. Only offense won't win the game. Should have 400 RBI between AROD, J. Gonzalez and R. Palmeiro. IROD is a huge loss eventho he had subpar season last year. Urbina should help thin bullpen.

AX Posted on 02-Apr-03 01:33 PM

AL playoff:

Yankees vs Anahiem => Yankees
White Sox vs Oakland => White Sox

AL Champion Yankees

Batting
HR: AROD, Palmeiro, Giambi, Ordonez, Manny
RBI: AROD, Manny, Giambi, Palmeiro, Ordonez
Batting average: Ichiro, Nomar, Bernie, Ordonez, G. Anderson
Run: AROD, Alfonso, Giambi, Ordonez, Nomar

MVP: AROD, Giambi, Ordonez, Manny, G. Anderson

Pitching
ERA: Pedro, Hudson, Zito, Mussina , Garcia
Wins: Pedro, Mussina, Petite, Hudson, Zito

Cy Young: Pedro, Zito, Hudson, Mussina, Moulder
DWI Posted on 02-Apr-03 02:03 PM

I am so surprised, that this site has the origin in Boston, and yet no Red Sox fans are seen.
DWI Posted on 02-Apr-03 02:03 PM

Never heard much of Magglio, Ax (except De Maggio, lol).

In your AL West analysis, yes, I like Athletics too. The pitching trio now have 2 playoff series experience to go with their youth. Tejada has been well adjusted to the role of the team leader after the departure of Giambi. Ecstein, certainly brings the 'X' factor, funny to know that not a lot of people know him from CA area.
But I am expecting big from Texas this season.

AL Playoff:
Yankees vs Anahiem => Yankees
Min. Twins vs Oakland => Oakland

AL Champion Yankees . I like the CY Young contenders and HR kings list too. I will go with that.

What do you expect out of Godzilla? Would he be good? Bobby Valentine had said that he is gonna hit 40-50 Hrs here also. Remember, he was the most confident coach on Ichiro (after Sweet lue).

YoUnGblOOdz Posted on 02-Apr-03 02:11 PM

houston atros did pretty well in da begining of the season..

i hope they will keep up with it...

AX Posted on 02-Apr-03 02:12 PM

DWI, They seem to be scared from Yankees fans :-)

After watching Godzilla play, he does not seem to be that power of a hitter. He covers all the grounds not like Ichiro tho. He will have 25-30 HR and 80-85 RBI and 75 runs. He may win the AL Rookie of the year even he is not the Rookie.

As you said, A's season is Tejada shoulder. Eventho they are small market team, I hope they have money to sign him. There was no drop off last year in A's after losing Giambi to Yankees.

I love to see AROD and Texas playign better. they don't have pitching. MLB is all about pitching to go with batting.

DWI, do you go to Yankees games???

I thought you were METS fan after reading your posting few days back.
DWI Posted on 03-Apr-03 12:04 PM

U said that right, Ax. Red SUX are always scared and blame it on the curse of the bambino.

I do goto Yankees game and planning to goto few this season. I am more Yankee fan than Mets, never been inside Shea stadium. But I have that sympathetic factor for Mets.

YoungBloodz, I think Houston is better in Basketball than Baseball. Not gonna be a good year for Astros.
AX Posted on 03-Apr-03 01:08 PM

NL
East

1. Braves: it's still the team to be in the NL east. Glavine won't be missed, they stole the Hampton (Rockies and Marlins pay him more than Braves), best outfileders in the NL, Sheiffeld would be in MVP hunt so is Chipper. Best closer in NL. okay pitching staff

2. Phillies: Jim Thome would be in MVP hunt. Milwood would provide great help. shaky bullpen. power hitter outfileders.

5. Mets: core of them offense is stil there. MO will have better year. Floyd would be scoring tons of run in front of Piazza. Glavine won't be much help. will be fun to watch oldie Cone in METS uniform.

5. Expos: getting back Robinson as skipper is plus, Gurrerro is one of the best hitter in the game, ex Yankees El Duque should provide great help, Tatis should play better,

5. Marlins: IROD will have ALL Star stat, AJ Burnett is great.
AX Posted on 07-Apr-03 11:34 AM

NL Central

1. Cardinals: No major trade. Young talented team with coupel veterans like Tino M and Jim Edmonds. Albert Pujlos and Scott Rolen will have 175 RBIs between them. E. Renteria is will have 35 HR. Tino will put up big nos 30 HR, 100 RBIs, won't be surprised if they get big name pitcher in the middle of the season. good bullpen.

2. Astros: signing is ex MVP Jeff Kent is great help. the best offensive team in the NL. won't be suprised if they (Bagwell, Berkman, Kent) have 400 RBIs and 140 HR combined. need help in starting pitching. great bullpen

3. Cubs: one of the best coach in the NL. Sosa will be named in MVP hunt again. good young talented starting pitching. not much help for Sosa and Alou. It will take few years for Dusty to take this team to World Series.

5. Reds: This team depends mostly on Juniors' nos. He should have the best season as Reds uniform. Sean Casey and Barry Larkin is good help. good pitching rotation. shaky bullpen.

5. Pirates: signing veteran players like Kenny Lofton and Reggies Sanders is good sign for thi ball club. Jason Kendall will have impressive nos as catcher(will represnt in all star)

6. Brewers: ???
DWI Posted on 07-Apr-03 04:38 PM

AX, brilliant analysis all over.

Braves sure should win more than what they are showing right now. Mike Hampton and Maddux combo might be the second best after the D'backs, arguably. Ortiz also can really shine and can be a 1st starting pitcher in any other team. But I would pick Phillies and Mets over Braves this season. Phillies have heavily invested this season and got some very good trades. I like Mets because of its pitchers and the bullpen. The bullpen might be the best in the league, after Yanks. They blew (Benitez) 9th inning lead in their last game but they should be better as the season progresses.

I like the NL Central analysis. Cards should be the top, Cubs may be second.
DWI Posted on 09-Apr-03 03:40 PM

Yesterday's game, Yanks vs the Fish (Marlins) gave me the chills that I got watching the last 4 point play by Larry Johnson for the Knicks (vs Heats). It was so dramatic that people watching the game in a happy hour sports bar started jumping so high, as if it was the world series game. Ofcourse, I am talking about Matsui's grand slam, what a way to introduce yourself in the home opener.

Games are getting exciting (specially since no other team to watch in this area, Knicks and Rangers both out..almost).

Yanks are definately better than last year. Not that Yanks were bad last year, it just that Angel's method worked. Has anybody noticed, Yanks have either won the world series for last few years or the team that has ousted the Yanks have won, eg. Diamondacks, Angels etc.
Mets also look good, definately better. Ty Wigginton was a good investment, Alfonso is getting old, he just can't hit it over the fence now.
DWI Posted on 20-Apr-03 07:35 PM

Ax,

What's your thought on the Mets? I still think they have one of the best bench and above average starters, but their closures are messing big time. Benitez is not a championship caliber pitcher, they should start looking for a good one or have Benitez start throwing other cutters than Fast ball only.

Yank's starting pitchers haven't lost a single game. They will start loosing few games but they sure look ready to win another set of rings.
AX Posted on 21-Apr-03 08:54 AM

DWI, I did not expect big out from METS this season. I think pitching wins the championship with good batting in MLB. METS do not have good starting pitching rotation. Troubled Yankees Contareas could have been their #1 pitcher (that's how bad their rotation is)

Their bullpen have been mess like Yankees, but Yankees are winning. I hope METS learn from Yankees on how to win games. I thought Stanton was a good addition, I guess not. Benitez is overrated.
AX Posted on 21-Apr-03 10:48 AM

DWI, did you read the news about the spat between the BOSS and the best coach in the league Joe Torre.

The BOSS seems to be outta his mind. Yankees are playing great (15-3). We don't need any distraction at this moment.........

already excited about going to Yankees champisonship parade :-)
AX Posted on 23-Apr-03 01:43 PM

New America's team - NY Yankees
- from ESPN

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Braves have been officially dethroned as "America's Team." A new Harris Poll, conducted nationwide in the days before the start of the season and released April 16, found that the Yankees have replaced the Braves as the country's favorite baseball team. "We know that, at some point between 1999 and 2003, the Yankees have taken over the crown as being America's favorite team," said Light, a Harris senior research manager who was in charge of the poll. She suggested the Braves slipped because the Yankees have had more postseason success and "have a bigger collection of stars right now."
DWI Posted on 23-Apr-03 05:17 PM

Ax,
I thought it was Torre who eleveated the argument to the press. The Boss told Torre that it his decision to move Jose Conteras (was it him?) to wherever he wants. Then he meddles and moves him to Norfolk(AAA) instead of the immediate minor league.

Steinburner has been doing this since way back. Seinfield showed a good picture of the Boss. Its always bad for a team when owners have a bigger voice than the knowledgeable GMs or Coachs. For example Knicks. If they have to raise their voice, it should be supportive like Dalla's Mavericks Owner.

No doubt, Boss was at fault but Torre seems to have realized he is in a comfortable position to question the Boss now. He always has been a guy of principal, but I think he is pushing the cards a little bit here.
DWI Posted on 23-Apr-03 05:21 PM

Atlanta Brave should never have been the america's team. I would have chosen Dallas Cowboys or New York Yankees any year. They represent what America is about and they have a brilliant history on themselves.

I think Braves was attributed that title (America's Team), just because of their name. The national Anthem ends with the words " Land of Braves." That should have contributed to the title. Braves, history wise, might be the second best team in MLB but their are other teams who should represent America better. Glad that it is Yankees now. The team of America.
DWI Posted on 27-Apr-03 12:31 PM

S O R I A N O

SORIANO

Is he the best deal right now? According to the Toronto, Minnesota and Yankee's coach, he has the fastest swing in the majors. He is leading the Yanks on doubles, Homeruns and all other categories that matter. He has had trivial game winning hits in recent plays, and truth is he is oh so young.

Soriano is one of the cheapest player in the Yanks roster and he is the most productive. Soriano, along with Jeter, Bernie, Mariano Rivera are the proofs that it's more because of their home grown farm, than their players buying money, that Yankees are leading this year too, despite the major injuries.

The kid sure has a fast hand. But he has to learn to be patient more often. When coaches tell him to be patient and do other things forcibly, it takes the zest away from his game. His lack of depth of knowledge of the game has been costly for Yankees in Post seasons. If he continues his learning process and hitting phenom, he will topple any Joe Dimaggio, Babe Ruth of the game.

Another player to watch, Babe look a like Nick Johnson. Say whay Ax?
AX Posted on 28-Apr-03 10:09 AM

DWI as you said he is the best deal that you can get. I think he makes $750K for this year. He is the best Yankee Player like last year. I won't be surprised to see his name for AL MVP balloting. I hope Yankees will be able to afford, he may look for Jeter's like cotract.

He leads the league in double and top 10 in RBI, RUNS, SB. He is better leadoff hitter than the great RICKEY HENDERSON. He will easily join 40-40 club this year and will be the only players to reach 50-50 soon.

It's amazing that hitting the leadoff and being one of the RBI leader is unheard of. He seems to be more patient than last year, he will learn as he matures. Seeing him hit those HR, you feel like you can hit HR too. I guess it's not only the power but you need to have fast swing too.

DWI, add Jorge Posada(catcher), Nick Johnson(1st baseman/DH), Andy Petite(pitcher) to those Yankees farm system. And will get to see Drew Henson as 3rd baseman next year.

Hope to see more from him and Yankees ............
DWI Posted on 29-Apr-03 07:55 AM

Said that right AX. Soriano is playing like Ichiro with Bond's power. I hope he will be consistent in the days to come. Heard a lot about Drew Henson; but with Ventura playing the way he is playing right now..we can wait one more year.

A friend of mine asked me Who is the best starting pitcher in NY metropolitan area ? My rankings:
1. Mike Moussina
2. Tom Glavine
3. Al Leiter ( He seems to have learnt a lot from Glavine and is not ony pitching fast balls now)
4. Andy Pettit
5. Rocket
6. Pedro Astacio
7. Boomer
8. Weaver

Who's your top Ax?
AX Posted on 29-Apr-03 08:27 AM

I might be little biased abotu this. I would put 5 Yankees starter ahead of METS. I don't like METS period.

Here's for Yankees:

1. The Moose
2. The Rocket
3. The Boomer
4. Andy Petite
5. Jeff Weaver
6. Sterling Hitchcock
7. Contreras

For METS
1. Tom Glavine
2. Al Leiter
3. Pedro Astacio

I don't even know other METS starting pitcher name. I would have put David Cone name there but he is in DL now.
DWI Posted on 29-Apr-03 08:35 AM

Ax, Mets hater? he he, Pedro, Tom and Al below Jeff, Hitchock and Contreras?
As I said I am a Yankees fan too, but I seriously respect METS 3 starting rotation. Remember, it's the closers and relievers that have been the problem so far.
AX Posted on 29-Apr-03 09:30 AM

Yankees do not have that great a bullpen either. They don't have BULLPEN as it used to be. I really liked when they had a tandem of Stanton and Jeff Nelson with MO closing out few years back.

Now MO is back,Yankee will benefit from him. He is the most trusted closer in Baseball.

I thought METS had good bullpen with Stanton, but he is struggling. I never trusted Benitez. He ain't no BIG time pitcher. We have seen that time and again.

I don't see any METS starting pitcher going to be selected in ALL STAR game and don't be surprised if you see 4 starting pitchers from Yankees :-)
AX Posted on 29-Apr-03 12:45 PM

Soriano's stats by this day April 29, 03

Batting: .388 (1st in AL)
Home Run: 9 (1st in AL)
RBI: 25 (tied for 1st in AL)
Runs Socred: 26 (1st in AL)
Hits: 45 (1st in AL)
Stolen Base: 6 (tied for 2nd in AL)
Slugging Percentage: .690 (tied for 2nd in AL)

If he continues to put up nos. like this, he will surely bag the 2003 AL MVP award.
DWI Posted on 07-May-03 09:57 AM

Ax,
What you said about Mets pitchers are coming true. Astacio has a bloated era of 7.0 (he had a good game last night though).

U're right about Yankees bullpen, loss of Stanton is going to be costly. I am afraid of the fact that Yankees Starting pitchers (atleast one or two) are going to suffer few injuries down the road. Hope Joe mixes few more pitchers in that 5 men rotation to give more days to the pitchers (specially for older one like Clemens and Wells).

I am watching St. Louis Cardinals and Phillies closely, they have a potential to go the world series.
thepeacekeeper Posted on 07-May-03 02:52 PM

DWI, add Jorge Posada(catcher), Nick Johnson(1st baseman/DH), Andy Petite(pitcher) to those Yankees farm system. And will get to see Drew Henson as 3rd baseman next year.

Drew Henson has been a big flop in the minor leagues so far. I don't see him making it to the big leagues. A lot of scouts think he should've stuck to football. He's a far better quarterback than a baseball player at any level.
khimu Posted on 07-May-03 03:22 PM

i dono nothing about baseball hai i know the team name but i dono aobut rule
and never watch game may be thats why
AX Posted on 09-May-03 01:42 PM

I thought the METS are a better team than their unimpressive record shows. They were overachievers when they played with the Yankees a few years back in the world series.

It seems like Steve Phillips days are numbered.

How about Piazza playing at first base? They will be spending around $25 Million on Piazza, Mo Vaughan and Tony Clark as a first baseman. It would have been better if they had signed AROD for $25M per year to play as shortstop. I feel real bad for former winners like ex Yankees Cone and Stanton now relegated to a lousy team.

DWI, i like st louis from NL. Houston seems formiddable.

I chose Cardinals and Yankees for a world series lat year and doing the same for this year.
DWI Posted on 10-May-03 07:11 AM

Yeah Ax, seems like Steve is heading to the home plate, after that long swing which seemed like a homerun but ended up being a foul ball in count 0-2.

I heard Piazza doesn't want to learn the basics of playing the first base as it would take aways his concentration. He sure is a liability behind the plate. I'd rather not have AROD, even if he is arguably the best player..to much of price tag.
Mets should and will do better than this. How? Ask Howe.

Khimu, rule is simple, sikney ho? We can have a posting just about learning Baseball.

Thepeacekeeper, you are right about Drew. He sure has been a flop in the minors. But he has a good arm to swing and hopefully adapt to the game. I don't think he is goinig to start next year (unless there is an immediate injury to Ventura). Ventura or somebody else might step up to the plate.
AX Posted on 04-Jun-03 12:25 PM

DWI, here's the MLB news

Jeter named 11th captain of the world famous Yankees :p

Jeff Weaver is heading back to Bullpen.

Sosa caught using illeagally-corked bat

Schilling will be sidelined indefinitely with a broken hand.
DWI Posted on 04-Jun-03 12:39 PM

You found it bro. I was like where is this thread.

Sosa's career was so headed to the Hall of Fame. Now I have doubts. How dumber can you get?

Jeter's attitude towards being named the captain seems to be very dull. He tells us to expect us to see the same Jeter, he always tries to distant himself from immediate pressures, even though he has handled each one well so far. Naming a captain is not just a reward. It is an immense load of responsibility. It may not be as much as a Cricket's captain but you are now looked up by the team. You should work harder to be a role model not only for fans but for the fellow players too.

Hope Schilling will be equally chilling even after the injury.

Ax, What do you think is the root cause of Yankee's recent failures? They went from sub 0.700 to mid 0.500 in winning.
AX Posted on 16-Jul-03 11:49 AM

Finally, good to see last nite All Star game not ending up in a tie like last year's debacle.

Now the whole world knows who really Garret Anderson is after winning the World Series ring, All Star MVP and Home Run Derby.

Benitez has been traded to Yankees for two minor leaguers. What do you think of it?

Who and which teams have been biggest the surpises so far?

DWI Posted on 16-Jul-03 12:42 PM

AX,
Benitez being traded to Yankees is still in rumor phase. There is a very high possibility of it happening though,
and I would expect that to be announced today or tomorrow; but so far it is not announced.
That trade is best for both teams. For Mets, Benitez has blown many big impact games although he has posted a decent
stats. Mets are in the camp of releasing some overpaid players and in the process are already under the Luxury Tax.
After the season is over, they will be able to get a lot of Free Agents. Benitez trade would be very good for them, as
Benitez will be a free agent after this season anyways.

For Yankees, Benitez would be an upgrade to the current setup pitchers. Him and Rivera would be a solid 1-2 punch, but
I am sure Torre will weigh his option carefully in the playoff. You can't count highly on Benitez. If Benitez stops
wining about his bad outings and starts taking responsibility he can be a good addition to the Yanks.

DWI Posted on 16-Jul-03 12:43 PM

The All star game was a blast. And people were complaining about the home-court advantage before the game. I bet
the Nielson ratings are way up for this game, compare to the last one. Garet Anderson will be a hot commodity now, but
how about that another guy , Blaylac or something? I had never heard of him before. I wished Rocket had started the
game.
Making the All star meaningful, by making it count for home-court advantage in the finals, was discussed since last 2 years.
It sure was a brilliant idea and it seems to be paying off.

Need a song in this thread???
Help_desk_3 Posted on 17-Jul-03 05:38 AM

Benitaz sucks... He shouldnt have been an All Star but because every other Mets suck.. someone had to represent! I dont like this deal.. The "boss" should not have brought him up. Remember when he was in Baltimore..?
But u never know how this deal can do.. its all about the pin stripes man...
well.. I guess Yogi was right when he said, "IN THE PERFECT WORLD, WE'D ALL BE YANKEES"

prediction: yankees over the Giants 4-1 and win the world series..
DWI Posted on 17-Jul-03 05:56 AM

Help_Desk_3 bro
Good inputs.
I am not a big fan of Benitez either, as I mentioned in my earlier threads. But so many Yankee fans are complaining about this deal, only focusing on Benitez. I'd tell my friends to look at the team first. Benitez is a definite upgrade from the current setup pitchers that the Yankees have, after Stanton left them. He is bad, but better that the worse (not a Yogi line). The pressure has certainly elevated, but with the assurance of Rivera coming after him, he might do something good..it can be hoped.
No doubt, Benitez blow up the saves big time (although his stats with Mets are good) with Baltimore and the Mets.

It is too early to predict right now. But from what I am seeing so far, it will be Yankees over Braves 4-3
AX Posted on 01-Oct-03 01:55 PM

Yankees over Twins 3-1
A's over RedSUX 3-2

:-)
DWI Posted on 01-Oct-03 02:51 PM

Like Ax said, Yankees over Twins 3-1

Only one of the following three teams have what it takes to win the penant:
NY YANKEES
OAKLAND ATHELETICS
BOSTON REDSOX.

National league doesn't stand a chance.

Giants will come out of the National league to be beaten in the world series by either Yankees/ As or the Stinking Red sox.
DWI Posted on 08-Oct-03 10:08 AM

I was a little surprised to see GIANTS getting eliminated, they might have felt the absence of Dusty Baker.

Boy, what about last night's game. When I saw Sammy was on deck on 9th inning, I thought he was gonna do it. And he actually hit the 2-run-homer to tie the game. I went to bed thinking now Cubs are gonna get it. Good for the fish, the bear couldn't eat it.

I am already getting chills for tonights game. But the one I am really looking forward to is the third game, Rocket vs Pedro.
I don't think this series would be pitchers dominated this time, as much as it was in the Twins-Yanks series. We will get to see few hits here and there every innings and if Yankees bats don't get to smell the balls, SOX can catch upon us.

Yanks over Sox 4-2
boston_dude Posted on 08-Oct-03 10:27 AM

Get ready for Cubs vs Sox for the World Series!

Well, Cubs is wishful thinking, but Sox will be there. My prediction is Sox over Yanks in ALCS, though it will tak 7 games to get the job done.

B_D.
AX Posted on 08-Oct-03 10:31 AM

Thanks for reviving the thread DWI.

Boston fans should be unhappy that they are playing a team which always beat them (badly). Rocket pitching shut out at Fenway Park to beat out Pedro.... wouldn't that be something? Will Bostonians take refuge in Bambino's Curse for the their certain defeat?

Yankees over Red Sox 4-1

Last nite's game was amazing. The lead changed many times. Sosa was great, hitting tying home run on the 9th. Pudge was even more amazing, driving 5 runs. He single handedly beat the Giants. With his help behind the plate, young guns are pitching great.

Marlins over Cubs 4-3

I don't think we will get to see Red sox or Cubs winning the championship in our lifetimes :-)
boston_dude Posted on 08-Oct-03 10:46 AM

For those of you who don't know much about baseball, the Sox are the team with shaved heads! The latest members to join the shaved head band are: Grady Little (manager) and Theo Epstein (GM). Hmmmm.... would "The Boss" ever consider sacrificing his hair? That is hair, not $$$. We all know he has plenty of the latter.

Go Sox!

B_D.
Rusty Posted on 08-Oct-03 11:20 AM

Since my head is already shaved, not for the sake of Red Sox, I will wear wig tonight to watch the game;)

Go Yankees go...
AX Posted on 08-Oct-03 11:55 AM

Gary who? Theo who? don't blame me if both of them don't come back next season

BTW The New York Times owns the Red Sox, what a bummer!!! We Yankees fans don't want to hear those consipracy theories after the ALCS is over :-)

Rusty, welcome to the Yankees Bandwagon :-)
DWI Posted on 08-Oct-03 11:58 AM

May be, Jason Giambi will hit a tie breaking homerun to win the series and they will rename the curse: THE CURSE OF GIAMBINO

Cubs aren't getting out of there curse either. Florida, who won 97 series might beat 'em up. But I am rooting for Cubs in that series.
krishna Posted on 08-Oct-03 12:37 PM

DWI,
Did you watch that collison in the outfield, when both players went for the ball. I think it was Red Sox filelders, wasn't it?? I watched it again and again and I am like, what the...

I think one guy couldn't wake up for nine minutes. Amazing, when you consider play off teams like Red Sox, not making a call when going for the ball. Haven't they been training this in the camps every now and again? I find it hard to believe that such a collison can take place. Dont their coach tell them to call when they go? Ridiculous...!! I hope the guy is fine for the Yankees game though.

Another one that I recall that I found astonishing this week was the Monday Night game between the Bucs and Colts. After such an amazing game, a silly rule (a leaping call) made the whole game bitter for me. Even if the Bucs had won, most people would have definitely admired Colts for the comeback they made. Colts deserve to win, but not with such a silly rule after all. Peyton Manning was amazing nevertheless. Some spectacular throw he made there in the dying seconds of the game to take it to overtime and win.

boston_dude Posted on 08-Oct-03 12:52 PM

Krishna,

The players involved in the collision were Johny Damon and Damian Jackson. Damon is the center fielder, and therefore shoul get to over-rule others. Video replay has shown that Damon did call off Jackson, but apparently the place was so loud that Jackson did not hear him. Ex players have said that it is almost impossible to hear anything at centerfield in the Coliseum. Also, you should realise that Jackson was a sub. While he has played quite frequently at 2nd base, he is not the everyday second baseman for the Sox.

In any case, Damon is fine and will mostly likely miss just the opener against the Yankees. He will back in centerfield tomorrow.

B_D.
DWI Posted on 08-Oct-03 12:57 PM

I am afraid I didn't watch that particular play, Krishna. But I think I heard about it in one of the sports show. You are right, it really kills to see such bad calls that should have been addressed in practice camp, training or even before coming to pro. But it is so much under the player's descrition to follow certain calls and get some cues. He probably made the bad judgement which is hard to overcome in just practice sessions.

I don't like when NFL games are decides by a mere penalty. I thought there was a similar rule too, only in favor to the team that is on the recipient part. Colts are playoff bound and they shouldn't be sad on one loss, ask this JETS fan.
DWI Posted on 09-Oct-03 05:47 AM

I warned these Yanks bats to come alive. Red sox are the best offensive team there is, Yankees Bats have to live up to their cost now.

But anyway, I am still 100% sure that we will come with the final victory. Moose was loose last night. 2 continuous walks issued in one single inning is not Moose-like. Giambi should focus more. Andy is gonna save the week.
AX Posted on 09-Oct-03 06:52 AM

It was a huge win for the Red Sox and that's where the Bambino Curse begins. Yankees lost the first game with A's and swept the series later on. It will happen again with this series. That's why I predicted it would be a 5 game series ;)

DWI, I hear you about the Yankees bat, but they be just fine. Just make sure to watch the game tonite. Andyman will be pitching one helluva game. He has delivered when Yankees needed it. Be it 1996's epic World Series Game 5 with almighty Atlanta Braves or 2003 Game 2 Vs. A's. The fans have a faith in him. Skipper Joe said it best when he described him as a Mr Fix-it.

Rusty Posted on 09-Oct-03 07:42 AM

I am still positive about the Yanks win tonight. BRAVO redsox...it was a nice game even though I didn't watch it.
DWI Posted on 09-Oct-03 07:55 AM

That Knucleballer did some magic last night, but our bats are prone to such lapses.

Ax, I am sure Andy Dandy will fix it. The pitcher I trust most in the Yanks rotation is Mike Mussina though. & I still think he is the best pitcher, after Pedro Martinez, among the teams surviving so far.

Yankees fans are never worried, we weren't worried last year of year before that. We were surprised to see Yankees loosing though.

& Red Sox fans, as somebody's placard said: We don't hate you. We still think you're the 2nd best team.
Ruby Posted on 09-Oct-03 07:55 AM

this is the last win for the Reds!
DWI Posted on 09-Oct-03 07:56 AM

May be one more Rusty. My prediction was 4-2.
boston_dude Posted on 09-Oct-03 12:24 PM

Good baseball talk!

Ruby, Reds were done in the regular season. The team giving Yankees a headache is the Red Sox. Reds is from Cincinnati :)

Andy P. may win tonight. He has historically done well against the Sox, and Lowe is due for a let down, after being over used and pitching so well during the Oakland series. However, I would not be surprised at all if Lowe does come out brilliant again tonight. I would give Yanks a 60% chance of beating the Sox tonight. In either case, game 3 looks like it will be a big, BIG game. Who-ever wins game 3 has a huge upper hand. I'm glad Pedro is on the mound for game 3, and it is the tired arms of Roger who will be going for the OLD Bronx Bombers. (BTW, what happened to the Bombers??? Looks like the real bombers are playing for the Sox. )

B_D.
DWI Posted on 11-Oct-03 02:52 PM

BIG FIGHT!!! Sox vs Yanks

When my Red-sox fan friend called me to bet for today's game, I told him I would rather bet for whether their will be a fight or not. We both thought there would be a fight, so none of us bet.

RED SOX SUCKS BIG FREAKING TIME!!!

Pedro couldn't sustain his game and lost his cool. That is a defense mechanism coming out of a loosing pitcher. It is RED SOX fault in entirity. How could you justify hitting old man Zimmerman?

GO YANKS BEAT 'EM ALL

One game left for Bostonians and you won't get to see them playing for ALCS champioship in your lifetime. So enjoy them today as much as you can.

MO aka Mr. Automatic was awesome last nite. Is he the greatest closer ever or what?

Boomer, as always pitched a great game lastnite.

No offense to AROD and NOMAR, I think Captain Derek Jeter is worth his value.

Yankees fans, get ready to celebrate another championship parade :-)
Rusty Posted on 15-Oct-03 07:24 AM

DWI Posted on 16-Oct-03 06:36 AM

As a New Yawker, I enjoyed the rivalry between Jets and Dolphins, Knicks and Heats. But I haven't ever had the chills that I am having for tonight's rivalry of the rivalries game. The biggest game of the season, YANKS vs RED SUX (spelling intended)
As a Yankee fan, I shouldn't even consider it a rivalry. Rivalries are with teams of equal caliber, so far it has been a sheer dominance. 1918, does that remind anything to you Sux fans?
Lets do it for the fans. Lets do it for the team. Lets do it for Don Zimmer. Lets show Pedro and Manny how it is done.
GO ROCKETS GO YANKS.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
boston_dude Posted on 16-Oct-03 07:02 AM

Hmmmm.... I'd said Sox in 7 games! Looks like it is coming true.

Tonight's game will be the game of the season for the entire baseball league. With all that stuff that went on on Saturday, this is the perfect way to settle score. All you Yankee fans, come on... be honest, deep inside, you are scared for tonight's game, aren't you? Just remember one thing...whether you like Pedro or not, one thing you do not want to do is get the guy mad. Historically, Pedro has pitched much better when he is upset.

In any case, it will be one hell of a game tonight.

B_D.

p.s. good to see Nomar finally coming through. It was about time.
DWI Posted on 16-Oct-03 08:20 AM

Well, pedro was pretty upset in game 4 too. He put signs outside his locker room (something like angry man inside or something) and didn't talk to anybody for a while. The Red Sux officials were afraid to talk to him. Result? A shaky 4th inning and loss of game.

khimu Posted on 16-Oct-03 09:18 AM

what a -huge- loose for Yankee and Cubs
boston_dude Posted on 16-Oct-03 09:56 AM

DWI,

On Saturday, Pedro was getting hit all over the place for the first 3 innings. Then all that bizzare stuff occurred in the 4th inning. However, after he hit Garcia, Pedro did not give a single hit for the remaining 3 plus innings he was in the game.

B_D.
DWI Posted on 16-Oct-03 11:27 AM

That's a good point Boston_Dude.

Pedro gets the upper hand by instilling that fear on Yankees bats. Now look for the following Yankees strategy:

In the very first inning, Rocket will throw a ball away from the strike zone, which will look like it is intended to hit the batsman. The referee will intervene and give warning to both teams. Now, Pedro will know that he can't 'head-hunt' as he will be thrown out of the game (referees aren't mandated to evict a pitcher even after warning, but they do it in most cases. There was an exception seen in the game 4.). This will relieve Yankees hitters.

So, Pedro might be a king of DPR, but no dice in Boomersville.
ssny Posted on 16-Oct-03 11:48 AM

Yankees v Red Sox - tonight's prediction - curse of Bambino continues.......

Rusty Posted on 16-Oct-03 12:26 PM

Watch out you Yankees-

Pedro is mad hearing this nonsense " curse of Bambino" all the time.
He is gonna wake the Bambino up tonight and pitch his ass off to him and put back Bambino way deep in ground forever... :-))

GO SOX..
boston_dude Posted on 16-Oct-03 01:20 PM

DWI,

That might a good strategy. We'll just have to wait and see if Yankees do something like that. I wont be surprised if Roger does come in on some of the Sox hitters. After all, Clemens has been known to be a much worse head hunter than Pedro. (This is why I dont feel sorry for Zimmer. Not only did he charge at Pedro the other day, but why has be been silent all these years when Clemens has been throwing at other people's heads? Remember Piazza, remeber Kevin Millar???)

Anyway, this is shaping up to be one hell of a game. Pedro, NYC's public enemy #1, is trying take the Sox to the World Series and Clemens, the former ace of the Sox, stands in his way.

Go Sox!

B_D.
DWI Posted on 16-Oct-03 01:38 PM

Yup,
I remember when Rocket wasn't a Yankee back then, Joe Torre would always refer to him as a Head Hunter. But now that he is a Yankee, we don't remember none of that.

Pedro and Manny are classless but gifted sportsman. I still believe Pedro is the best pitcher there, with an arsenal of 4-5 balls. But he won't be able to hold off more than 6-7 inning tonight. Although Boston's bench has been better than Yankees (and we fought for Contreras for nothing), Clemens is gonna carry us upto 7th stretch and then Auto-MO will close the last two innings.

Have a great viewing tonight folks.
DWI Posted on 16-Oct-03 01:41 PM

This is painful. Anybody, I mean anybody who knows anything about baseball would have pulled Martinez before facing Matsui in the 8th inning. Oh well.... what can anybody do now?

Congratulations DWI and the Yankee fans! Go beat 'em Marlins. After this series, that should be a walk in the park.

I agree with you. Man, what a blow up for RED SOX nation. I was with bunch of friends watching at home. When Grady came to the mound at 8th after the first hit we thought he is gonna yank the Pedro out. All of us shouting the same time" take the Pedro out" when he walked out after Pedro's YES node. That was the turning point. I can't belive Lil Grady left Pedor on the mound with 100+ pitches already and lefties were coming to hit....

It is not going to be fun watching world series. Yankees gonna win all the way and they do deserve it now...

I will accept the loss and take a solace in just beating the Red Sux.

One fact, for last few year the Bronx Bombers have either claimed the World Series, or the team who has beaten them in the playoffs hvae. May be the GMs will look into this and start modelling their team around beating the Bombers (plus getting qualified for the playoffs).

Yankees fans are not gonna take any abuse from anybody who just came after the final win, and had never posted before.
Fish, congrats for the 2nd winning season and as many championships.
