Just because there may be compatriots or even relatives serving as mercenaries in an unjust war does not mean we need to support what they are doing! The war is WRONG, and idiotic... and it will bring more problems than it may solve. If we are truly concerned about their safety and wellbeing... then how about calling for a troop withdrawl? just my *biased* opinion on this issue.

I also spotted a photo of Iraqis surrendering to "British soldiers from India." Presumably Gurkhas. Nepali Times says there are 2,000 Gurkhas in Iraq. The earlier figure I'd read online was 3,500 (although Biswo said that was probably the total compliment of Gurkhas, and not the number in Iraq).

We, Nepali, SHOULDNOT be proud of these British Gurkha. Sai is damn right ...they are Bhanda ko sainik. They are not fighting because that is their duty. They are fighting for few pounds. They should be in front line ( I am sure they are). Our governement should ban Nepali citizen to join any kind of foreign forces.

Ya really, maybe our government should also ban Nepali citizen's from coming to America to work too eh? Where are you Chasma ji or jyu? In the U.S. or in Nepal right now living or visiting? Doesn't matter where, everyone puts bread on the table for their family some way or the other, be it their own country or foreign, whatever occupation, they may like it they may not, not for you and I to judge. What matters is where your heart belongs no matter where you go or who you are. So here's to the Nepali Gurkha's once again, I am proud to be a Nepali and I am proud of them and I cheer them on in the effort against Sadam!

I don't think those of us who are not in the British army fighting this war or any other war as Gurkhas have any ground to be judgemental and speak about how those soldiers feel about their jobs. Maybe they do feel a lot of pride in what they do. Maybe they do feel its a fight worth fighting. I don't know but neither do people criticizing their profession. Needless to say that they enlist because of the pay, no doubt but maybe it does not end there for them. Many of us who will not even qualify to join their ranks will be the first ones to associate ourseleves with Gurkhas at any given chance so I am wondering why this objection to what some of us have decided to pursue as our profession. Frankly, we have no or very little say over how and where they are deployed because we don't pay their bills. British government does. Unless some of us are willing to find them another employment if as suggested, Nepal govt bans nepalese from serving in foreign armies, ummmm...( I won't say it but I hope you guys get the gist) Furthermore, it is a voluntary service. They are not forced or drafted to serve. Gurkhas have brought Nepal more than just the monetary benefits and I think we should leave them alone, wish them success and pray that all of them come home safe and sound. So on that note, Go Gurkhas, hope they have a great success and come home safe!!!
