Shri Panch maharajadhiraj Sarkar's speech today focused on 4 major issues:

1.Constitutional monarchy and multi party democracy
2. Lasting peace
3.Good governance
4 Development and Reform

Multi-Party Democracy and Constitutional Monarchy: People and the institution of monarchy working together in the development and in preserving Nepal's independence is a "maulik-nepali" trait. The institution of monarchy has always fulfilled and represented the wishes and desires of the nepali population and "it" will continue to do so.

MultiParty democracy is the need of time, and we all shoudl work together to make democracy work in Nepal.

2. Peace and stability are must for the development of Nepal. The King questioned, 'Why are we lagging behind when other countries are way ahead of us?" His Majesty then foucsed on peace, and asked everyone to help in the peace process.

3. Good Governanace: A buraeucracy that is corruption free, transparent and efficient and a government that ensures all these, also on people's rights are needed for nepal's overall development and [for people's faith on multi-party democracy].

4. Development and reforms: bikash is the first and foremost priority. Economic oppurtunities have to be provided and exploited (by the govt?), also everyone should fight against the discrimination thate xists in the nepali society.

So, overall the King's message, deliverd in an assertive tone, was one of the best speeches of the last 12 years.

IF sir,

I have not listened to the King's today's speech, so I give you the benefit of doubt. But you should add one more sentence to your claim so that it becomes meaningful:

overall the King's message, deliverd in an assertive tone, was one of the best speeches of the last 12 years. His last speech was the worst in the last 12 years.

A friend of mine used to say: this is the last millenium of my life!

How many speeches has Gyanendra "Sarkaar" given in the last 12 years?

"I did not sleep at all last night, and I am not feeling sleepy until 2 am today, #$%^ me!"

MB,

I think today's speech was GREAT, and the last speech was GREAT too. So, there's no reason for me to add that "statement" to my claim.

IFji,

Just out of curiosity: do you think HM king Gyanendra ever delivered a 'NOT SO GREAT' speech? :-)

And if Madhupark decides to publish a collection of Gyanendra's speeches down the road, claim their literary value warrants such publication, will you agree with the decision of Madhuparka?

And, how about the speech given by Comrade Badal ni?

Your Laopengyou:

After hearing King G's address in the civic reception, I should also say that the 'bhasan' is well-balanced and better than that of so-called 'janasabhas' of the main political parties and the maoists. The speech is well-worded (whoever has written it?) and is balanced politically and it corresponds to the feeling of a common Nepali in this time of the hour. It is far better than the 'hawadari', 'khokro' bhasans of Girija, who speaks nothing more than 'Grand design' and 'conspriracy' theories.

On the other hand, Makune talks of fear of 'Pratigaman' and importance of interim government, implying how necessary it is to make him the premier. Maoists are maoists, they lack clarity in their demands and talk about 'Naulo Prajatantra', which may be definitely naulo but not a 'prajatantra' at all.

In sum, all the political stuffs by majority of the parties are biased and they blame each other for the present condition of Nepal. Baburam thinks the present condition is due to the political mess created by major parties and the King is not only a person/institution to blame (see how he has changed his tone in a week or so). Makune thinks that maoists should not be included in the interim government, which would otherwise weaken the chances of his premiership position.

In sum, King G's address is a good one, which represents the present sentiment of a common Nepali.
