Skip the line and go to counter number 3 (if in Dallas) and explain your situation. - The guy working there is very polite. He will take you to his office and explain everything very carefully. - $36 for the visa cash/credit - Make sure you go there early 8 to 11 I think. - Usually takes about a day but if requested, they will give you the Passport back same day... - Patience is the key here. -Make sure you have all the documents listed on their website before they can issue a visa. I had to make three different trips before I got my visa. Dfw to Brownsville The American Airlines flight from DFW to BRO is very small. If you are flying make sure the luggage is not that big. I had to valet my luggage as it didn't fit in the headboard. I would recommend carrying duffle bag or similar kind. Flight Tickets are usually cheaper If purchased at least three weeks earlier. I would also recommend flying one day before the appointment Or ASC date. The flight takes about hour and half. Upon arrival at Brownsville Upon arrival at Brownsville.. I was picked up by MAS Assistance and they dropped me off to the best western gran residential. This is the one of the best and safer hotel around. The Hotel is guarded by the federal policia and it's safer compared to other location. The nightly rate is $10-$15 more than the other hotel but it's Worth it. I paid about $72 per night including morning grand breakfast and buffet. The hotel has its own restaurant and bar where you can dine and chill. Hotel has wifi all over the area and is secured. The people here are very nice and very accommodating. Rooms are clean and do have American channels on the TV. Best part about the hotel is the ASC and USC are within two blocks. At the USC The process is pretty simple you tell them you have an interview and they will ten fingerprint you and take your photo. Make sure Your hands are dried. At the USC Waited about an hour in the line outside. It's very hot so prepare accordingly. They will let you inside the consulate around 10:30 or so. You will be given a number. Once your number is called, go to the counter and provide the information to the Clerk. They will make copies of your document and ask you to go back to the seat and wait for the VO. The place is pretty packed. They have children area, restroom, and water cooler inside. I had to wait about 30 mins before they called my number. The actual interview Me : good morning , how you doing? VO : Good Handed him my passport, ds 160 and the file. VO: how long you have been in the states? ME: seven years VO: that's a very long time ME: I did my undergrad and now I am working on my MBA VO: you know, your visa might not get printed today? ME: That is absolutely fine sir VO: So how many years do you want on your visa? ME: Whatever you think is appropriate. VO: what you plan to do after graduation? ME : Work Make sure you only book one way ticket as they might take couple of days to issue the visa.
