Has anybody lived with Indians before? What was your experience like? Are they cool to live with? This is a mere request to share your advice/experience so hopefully, you'll provide some decent input instead of turning this into anti-India/Indian thread. (I'll delete them)  Also, I'd appreciate if you didn't bother mentioning 'stinky' odor coming off their apartments because that'd be a bit hypocritical.  Thank you.

I lived with an Indian roommate (girl) for a year. I didn't have any problem with her. My personal experience is that there are different types of Indian. You want to live with those Indians who are pursuing some sort of university degrees or are intellectually at your level. I was even helped by a random Indian in NY state when I was stranded there for couple of hours. There are tons of cool Indian people. After all, India is the land of great Yogis with mystic vision and different approach to life.

First of all your post is very strange. In one hand, it seems you are genuinely asking for an honest opinion, in other hand you are vastly generalizing a group of people. My experience with one Indian is going to be so different to yours with any other Indian. India is a big country and people from South are completely different in their mindset to people from North per se. Having said that, I have lived with both Indian and Nepali roomies. Living with Nepali roomies has a perk that you can take them to Nepali events and parties, they become your own friends. While I was very close to my Indian roomies, I couldn't say they were utterly comfortable with Nepali gatherings just because they didn't understand what we were talking about. Other than that, they were very decent and professional bunch. I am still in contact with few of them. Tl;dr: Don't generalize.

In a nutshell… Girls are fine as our friend (above) suggests.... but guys get into politics very fast and think Nepal is a part of India (generalizing them, but it’s true for 99% of them). If you can stand that statement then you are fine, else.... Second, when I lived with a couple of them, we used to eat rice and packaged dal and vegetables (two for dollar stuff) from the Indian grocery store. Well we also had the luxury of affording the famous 'aam ka aachar' or occasionally some mixed pickle.  Third, usually they are vegetarians because meat costs money.  If they get it for free, they have an appetite for a whole cow . Leading to Fourth, if you are living on a rent-grocey-share basis, they fight for every penny on a grocery bill, and any meat item will become rare. Exceptions, Dashara, Diwali, and if they are not greedy then the occasional birthday treats. Finally, fifth - you will have to be lucky not to get bedbugs. Rest - don’t be a resist, they are humans made of flesh, bones and blood- just like us. Last edited: 25-Sep-13 03:52 PM

I had no intention of generalizing. If that were the case, I'd have started a thread with a motive of finding out a way of binding them together. I'm quite aware of the fact that each of us is a different human being. I mean, my sibling and I have very few common traits but that said, I was hoping someone who's already lived them could probably shed some light on what they went through. I've lived with Nepalese before and being one, I know what to expect.  Anyway, there's no point going into detail about the motive. I just need(ed) some experiences and idea on what to expect from an 'average' person.  MN_Nepali did bring up a valid point. It seems like a number of Indians unknowingly mistake Nepal as a part of India. If I ended up sharing an apt with one, I'll make sure I'll have a few tshirts w/ message about Nepal and Buddha imprinted in them.  I do appreciate your responses.

This post is racist. Think you are living with another human, why bother what nationality they are. If it bothers, live alone.

Thanks for your valuable input (as always), Bittertruth.

Bittu always has smth or the other to say!! Nice one thou!!! All in all, it depends on how they are, kiddo mentioned it thre are some perks in living with Nepali ppl, but it all boils down to how a person is!! I had a pretty decent experience with my Roommate (Indian) as u mentioned, no sourness whatsoever!!

BT i know it souds bit racist but let me share my expirience in my past I have lived with two different indian one was very helpful , very clean and cooks when its her turn , we used to make schedule when to clean , cook and stuff you know, then she had to move to different state for her job then the other girl came along I told her how me and this other girl used to work with schedule first few weeks it was fine but after she showed her true colour she didnt used clean , cooking was way beyond her point so yes people are not always same, its just like a saying dont judge a book by its cover.

Reg,  so, it's because she's indian? I don't think so.  It's coz she's damn fcking lazy.  These fcking slouches are everywhere. And, to be honest, that's a tard way to live.. to wait on someone to cook your food, do your chores? whao..  I would get my butt up and do my own stuffs. This is weird.. is that how you ladies do live while sharing room with other of your fellow mates? I heard this way of living from several others folks? I personally consider it 'lame'.  I lived doing  my own stuffs, forget about eating food made by someone else, I mean I did live with house mates, but nobody is gonna touch my food and wash my utensils except me. Be your own boss, no whining, no complain.

bittertruth · Sep 28, 2013 2:55 PM

BT my point was not cooking or doing chores my point is every person is different you wont know until you try it

 भाते भन्दा खाते अच्छा भन्ने निक्लेलान ?

MaGorkhe1 · Sep 29, 2013 6:43 PM

Reg, I don't give myself any time to know anyone.. it's a waste and whats usually unveiled in doing so, is quite disturbing.. it's rather lot better not to know anyone. I don't have enough time to know about self, how the heck do I get my time getting to know others if they're good or bad. Advice: avoid that in the future if possible.. Do your own stuffs for your own sake. You'll be lot happier than finding yourself bemused/troubled/irritated.
