Namaste - I am thinking to apply for J1 visa. But , I already told my US citizen (brother) to make a case for me toward Green Card. I forward scan of my passport to him and he applied to USCIS. I think he got one case number. But, actually this process can take place years (as he acquired citizenship through DV). I think I have not applied GC yet, but the case is on their table, I guess. Now, I am puzzle with one question in J-1 form. Would you please any one suggest ? what can I write for this question:- Have your ever filled, or has anyone ever filled for you, an application for green card status? If yes, please attach explanation (give dates and places of filing, name of person who filed, relationship of that person to you, final decision on application, current status of application? If your brother has already petitioned for you then the answer for the question is yes. It doesn't matter if you haven't applied, someone has done that for you and you are in their system (because you have a case no now). Be honest while answering the question and write down the current status. Do not lie, because sooner or later they are going to find it out. You should have petitioned for GC after you applied for J1. Disclaimer: I'm not an immigration expert.
