Hey guys, what kind of courses should a person (beginner) be taking who is interested in becoming a data analyst? And in what sequence? For example, should he be learning SQL first and then learn Python? Also, would online sources be enough? What do employers look when hiring a data analyst (entry level)? Your suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes first Sql and then Python would be a good order. For entry level, if you have exp. in Excel (Inter-advanced level) that would help you as well. employers do look for some exp. usually there is no single req in data analytics. Data prep/data engineering ----> Data Analysis ---------> Reporting this is the combo exp that most companies want in the candidate. start w SQL and get some exp. good luck. I think most of the material is online. but taking some training would be def worth it.

You should have excellent background in statistics and mathematics, learning sql syntax only NOT enough.

Thank you all for your valuable suggestions. Starting with SQL and moving on to Python, Tableu seems like a way forward.
