 Yes, you right bro this is my sister Assignment. I found this one intresting so i did post on Sajha Thread. for mine view on this it will be like this ,  Assuming I am a counseling intern at a local middle school and desiring to set up a Substance Abuse Prevention Group, here is what I would do... To begin with, I would create a proposal for the guidance counselor letting him or her know what I am wanting to do and why.  I would also include how I plan to recruit for the group and what material I plan on discussing in the group.  After receiving approval I would request time to speak to the Advisory Classes (this seems to be where they discuss these types of issues in Public Middle Schools) over the next few weeks.  In explaining to the kids what I am wanting to do and why, I would explain that anybody could be in a situation where they have an opportunity to participate in these sorts of activities.  If they haven't already, it is probably coming soon, so it is good to be prepared.  I would also let the kids know, that if they have already been smoking, drinking or using, it is never to late to decide to make a change.  I would let them know that I would be available for questions in class or out of class (in the counsleors office) and that any meeting with me is confidential (and I would explain what confidential means based on the last chapters we read.)  I would let the kids know that we may be selecting some students for the group(s) even if they did not inquire.  These students would be people that we feel would be able to give us feedback on the group, and I would request Advisory Teachers to give me a list of students to interview (a diverse group of students). Next I would post flyers as reminders to students and include times and dates for interviews and a goal of when the group(s) will begin.  I would also send out a flyer on the parent network and/or in the school newsletter. I would begin conducting interviews with the students and would let them all know that depending on the turn out, they may be placed in a group now or later or maybe not at all, but if they have questions about it, they can come back by and ask anytime.  During the interviews, I would answer questions, address things like confidentiality, fears/concerns, and expectations and let them know that they will have another chance to address these things when the group begins, if they participate.  The only people that I would not want in the group are people that seem totally uninterested to the point of defiance, because I think all kids need this information.  I would narrow it down, by who actually wants to participate and by who the teachers recommend.  I would try to have 8-10 kids in a group, knowing that some will talk more than others. I think I would make it an Open Group, so that if someone drops out, I could keep the group around the same size. The group would be homogeneous, since they are all in Middle School.  In the group I would begin by telling a little bit about myself and remind them why I put the group together.  I would let them know about statistics in the area of substance abuse and different ways it can begin.  I would try to get them to open up (hopefully placing a child or two who have already opened up would help) by asking questions and affirming their feelings and situations.  It would be my desire to encourage the kids to look at how and why these activities are occurring and look at what it really accomplishes and what it could lead to in the future.  Letting them know that for some it could turn in to a serious addiction and of course that it is against the law, so they need to be aware of possible consequences.  It seems like there is a wide variety of reasons why kids use alcohol or drugs.  For some it could be fun and adventurous, some might because of peer pressure, some might be trying to escape pain.  So they all can be eductaed as to why it might be a temptation now or later, along with how to handle it. I know that the way I have answered the question makes it sounds all wrapped up in a neat little package, but I know different obstacles would appear as I procede.  :)
