Nepal: King Gyanendra calls for elections

Under sustained pressure from mainstream political parties and Maoists to restore democracy, Nepal's King Gyanendra on Thursday night called for general elections.
"It is our desire that with the active participation of all political parties committed to peace and democracy, a meaningful exercise in multi-party democracy be initiated through an exemplary democratic exercise like the general elections," the king said in his Nepali new year broadcast.
The King said that general elections are the best way to exercise multi-party democracy in a meaningful way. In a short statement broadcast on Nepal Television, he asked political parties to resolve all issues through dialogue, saying, "The process of dialogue is always open to activate multi-party democracy system."
Gyanendra reiterated a call to political parties to "...bear responsibility of - and contribute to - activating the multi-party democratic polity."
His call for general elections came as the opposition's general strike entered the eight day on Thursday.
King should call all the leaders of these political parties, arrest them and send them for summary execution.
Why good news ? People are looking for election ? or To throw the entire corrupt royal system ?
If people go for election at this moment, nothing will improve. Same king, same ministers and same environment. Hell no to election. Go to uproot the king.
Don't Go to Election where Gyane will be always the ruler.

Gyane is just playing shrewd as he knows his arse going to be kicked for good from Nepal. It was excellent that his offer for talks was declined instantaneously so that he knows where he stands now.
A killer, killer's father, and dictator; I do hope he is prosecuted and made abdicated.

Its a good news for all who have been demanding democracy. The so called democratic political parties are against such an election, because they won't have any rigged election under king's rule. They are simply afraid of going to people and convince them.

it is not true that parties would be afraid of elections (at least i do not beleive they r)...they and maoist as well are demanding fro Constitutional assembly elections, and they are prepared for whatever people will decide including future of monarchy
IF gyane had peoples' support he should have called for election to contitutional assembly or at least talked with SPA about the modalities of the elections..
IF SPA goes into elections under KG term, i would oppose that in whatever capacity i can.
Dear biswa, Why constituent assembly? These corrupt political parties are demanding constituent assembly because this is the only way they can get back to power. If these parties had still been in power, they would have never demanded such a constitution assembly. These parties are so ugly and shameless that they enjoyed the present constitution as long as it was giving them power. Now, they are against the present constitution because it is no longer helping them.
