BIRATNAGAR, Dec 5 -
One
of the suspects of the Ritesh-Aasish double murder case who was nabbed
by the police in a village in Sunsari district has managed to escape
from the
Biratnagar Airport while being ferried to Kathmandu on Thursday evening.A
team of Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Crime Division had arrested
suspect Birendra Kumar Pandit from Harinagar-5 in Sunsari district
yesterday.
According
to sources, Birendra was able to dodge the police team and run away
just before the team boarded a plane to the capital.
The
team led by Police Inspector Om Kunwar had been sent to Sunsari last
week to apprehend suspects Birendra and Deepak Mahato. The duo had
escaped from Kathmandu following the murder of Ritesh Rauniyar and
Aashish Manandhar.
A police source at the Biratnagar Airport said that Birendra was not even handcuffed while being brought to the airport.
It has been learnt that only one sentry was present at the airport when Pandit escaped.
Morang and Sunsari police have confirmed Pandit's escape.
The
police recovered the dead bodies of Ritesh Rauniyar and Aashish
Manandhar, both 15-yr-old and residents of Tahachal, from a community
forest at Thankot in the capital on November 26.
Rajendra
Pandit, the prime suspect of the double murder, was arrested on
November 27 and made public by the police yesterday. He has admitted to
killing the two teenagers with the help of his two friends Birendra and
Deepak Mahato over a minor dispute.
