Hi everyone, I have read a few posts regarding this matter. I am currently on OPT (on 17 months extension) that expires next year. I have a valid visa, for a year or so and work full-time as a direct-hire. I am thinking of going to Nepal in the next few months, get married and return with my spouse. In general what immigration risks might this have, for me in first place? but more importantly for my spouse (as she has to go get a visa, right?). I would love to hear from any of you who have encountered similar situations or you know of any specific cases. Thanks for your inputs.

I traveled to Nepal on my OPT back in 2009. I didn't had any problems entering US. Though I was carrying my employment letter, leave letter, EAD card, I-20, etc. they didn't ask me anything. It was as simple as that. One of my friend did the same thing last year. He had full time job. He got married, applied F1 dependent visa for his wife and got it without any hassle. Based on these scenario, you should be good to go and as long as you can show affordable income to support your and your wife there shouldn't be a problem. These are based on my experience, please don't be certain.

Hi Life2Live, Thanks for your response. Your friend, was he on OPT as well? Based on your description, I infer I would require a signed I-20, EAD, Employer letter, Salary sheet, valid visa and passport. Any other document that could be useful?
