I have also been facing this problem for many times. This is not new thing for NTC. When I was in nepal and tried to call my friend on his mobile, it often said, the mobile is switched off'. The interesting part was, we were together and  his  mobile  was also  not  switched  off. So , such stories are  common for NTC.

do you think that you are the only one to suffer this prob? no we are all. if you want to make a call to nepal, you always have to spare atleast 1 hr whether the call is sucess or not.

nepal telecom is proud that they have very good latest equipment in comparision to south asia. yes they have. but they are not able enough to provide its service extremely as per the need of time. sansar kaha bata kanha pugi sakyo, they don't have good planner to meet the challenge and demand of time. anyhow jaagir khau. but they maintain at the top in the list of profit making organization in nepal. nepali harulai lutnu samma luteko chha. if you use the same phone card it gives more than 80 minutes to india enjoying a very good quality of service but if you try it to nepal, it is horrible. mukhama handiu jasto lagchha.

NTC regularly blocks incoming 'illegal' VoIP made calls, and block any identified local gateways. Hence the message the number is not subscribed to Accept incoming international calls when the calls made using phone cards to Nepal show one of the local numbers on caller_id in Nepal, and in which case such number has been identified and blocked by NTC.

Backward, my friends, is where NTC is headed.

Guys, I have similar experience too. It's very frustrating. I try for hours and still it does not go through but the money keeps on decreasing. I feel really helpless.

I wish the service was little better.

.

I guess NTA governs that, and NTC complies to it on regulations on termination of VOIP calls.

I was lucky about it, still have 61 cents remaining from $2 prepaid calling card still 12 minutes to go if connected.

not trying to advertise himtel, but their $5 card always gives me 13mins and has always worked. I stopped buying those $2 cards even though they promise 23mins. Once in a while i get the 23mins but most of the time it's either the stupid NTC message or too much static to make a conversation. The last few times i could hear my parents talk but they couldn't hear me. So, even though it's expensive i have started using the $5 card....it works most of the time on the first try and is crystal clear.

what the hell ntc is blocking illegal VoIP for? the answers could be

a) to avoid illegal service that ntc never seek the alternate solution to provide the service cheaply and conveniently to the people

b) to maintain law and order or peace and prosperity in the country

c) to make the same profit whatever it used to earn 10 years back in a single international call.

d) what else...

I have the solution:-

- Well VOIP was/is illegal in Nepal ...  and ........... AT&T is the only legal calling card in Nepal.

- Buy those AT&T ... $5 = 26 mins. calling cards from Himtel or TeleNepal.com if you are in EMERGENCY... its LEGAL and works without any complaints... coz that is the only "legal" calling card to Nepal....

Lets not get into technical shit here, but it all started happening when the caller id technology was introduced in Nepal. Unfortunately, HimTel CEO, Hemendra Bohra was in Nepal then, for some family bihey, ... and HimTel cards stoppted working first..... and we all heard all that news about Hemendra Bohra running away with all the cash!!! .. lol..... I was in Nepal then too.... poor Mr. Bohra refunding all his customers and trying to get things in track...!!

And ofcourse, its not "Lato Desh ma Batho Tanneri" ... NTC has a deal with AT&T... that NTC will let AT&T to be the exclusive provider of incoming international calls to nepal. It could change, if those "Batho Desh ko Lato" workers at NTC let NTC get privatized...... but they won't coz, they loose their jobs... and ofcourse, NTC would certainly make a lil more money, if they license out voip operators ... but all these BATHO sarkari jagires will end up with their own hadtal.. if ntc thinks abt getting it privatized.....

well, i don't know if its "lato desh ma batho tanneri" or "batho desh ma lato tanneri" .....but its always easy for ppl to come up and just "comment" on issues...
