You Don't even need to do that. Just send email mentioning name of one company and you will be fine for a year.

If your major is business related, than the gas station should work fine...........just come up with some good position, like assistant manager or shift manager........... let me know your progress.

let me share you my story

I graduated last december (4 years degree). My OPT started Feb 02 2009 and it's expiring on feb 01 2010, but as usual no job. Ra ma ahile regular GS ko Kaamm gardaichhu. I went and talked to my DSO and he said you need to have an I-20 from any school (I mean literally 'any' school :community college, university, vocational schools--as long as they qualify within INS requirement and the new school accepts you). And that is within after 60 days of your OPT expiration. Here is what I am doing. I want to join grad school. For that I need to have my GMAT score. So I decided to join KAPLAN test prep. I decided to start from March last week (before my opt expires(with 60 days grace)). Then that KAPLAN  I-20 will take me thru august last week (an I-20 being 6 months long). In the mean time, I could prepare for the test, take test, and get admitted to grad school (which of course is possible within august last week--I have to coz I got no choice fall semester begins around august last week).

Here is the timeline:

feb 01 2010 opt expires

60 days grace will make it April 01 2010

transfer clarance from undergrad school

March last week start KAPLAN TEST PREP

June 15 take test

by June 18 apply to all grad schools I want to

August first week- get accepted to grad schools w/assistantship (hopefully)

transfer from kaplan

start grad school

Remember enrolling in Kaplan test prep is like taking regular 3 cr hours  class in college requiring you to do all the homeworks, class attendance, and group participation. It is just like a higher level of ESOL class for grad int'l students. However, I-20 is 6 months; the class is  only 3 months. If within that 3 months you get good score and decided to transfer to grad schools, you are homefree. For some reason you did not get desired score and you meet all class attendance, homework reqirement you can take another 3 months at same kaplan location for free. So basically you are paying $1800 for 3 months class on 6 months I-20. But if you screw up in that first 3 months if have to pay 2nd $1800 to do another 3 months class. Also, the 60 days grace period applies to Kaplan I-20 as well.

Hope this helps

Kaplan seems like a good plan but the bad part is that you have to spend about 22-26hrs per week, not quite sure about the exact hourly requirement, in the institute to save your F1 status. You can only miss upto 50hrs within the time you are enrolled in their program.
Then there is the one month I-GMAT classes you have to go to for the first month, the timing of the class was a pain, Tues, Wed and Thurs 2pm-5pm. I had to adjust my work time and work around it.
You have to do what you have to do, but kaplan was a pain in the a$$ when i enrolled in their program to save my status.

related to OPT,

Can i work for any employer, regardless of the field I graduated in, with the work permit??

I read somewhere that with the EAD card,
"Foreign
Students with F-1 status seeking Optional Practical Training (OPT)
in a job directly related to studies.
"

Is there any way govt. can come after us if we work in a different field with that EAD card??

Relax Singh , why do you ask such questions? do you want people to answer that in here and get in trouble? the answer is no, the work has to be in your field of study. why do you even ask that question? did you see or were told by someone that most people work outside their field of study because of the bad economy? if so why not ask those people directly if they ever got in trouble.

On a side note, my previous international student advisor who went to Nepal frequently for visit was fond of sajha. And a Nepali asylee language interpretor told me that an Immigration officer had sajha page on when he got onthe room to translate. Sajha is read by everyone. We don't wanna give any advises which is illegal against the immigration law. So if you want honest answer don't work outside the field of study, go back home rather that staying illegal. but if you're a hustler , don't ask such stupid questions in here. there is no such thing as verifying illegal stuff. over all, we don't wanna look like bunch of people who give advises on how to cheat the system on public website.

and honestly, i did not say those things to insult you. And this answer does not just limit to your case. i see often people asking help for illegal asylum, to illegal work and everything. asking such questions is like challenging authorities to come catch them, and at the same time it ruins our repution of honest community in foreign land.
