Hi Sajha users!

I am here again to get your opinion on this topic. I am wondering whether it is possible to buy USD in Nepal as a US/Canadian citizen.
I think we are allowed to bring upto 10,000 USD to US/Canada, but I am not sure if I can buy USD legally in Nepal. Please share your experience so that I can plan things accordingly.

 If u r  Citizen of Nepal, any Good bank (A level bank) will issue USD showing ur visa/passport . But I m nt sure in case of foreign citizen .

               first of all its good question here is my few cent yes u can showing ur passport to the bank usually what i do is i use my credit card and pay to thamel.com and they will give me nepali rupees and i spend nepali rupees like there is no tomorrow but that is for buying nepali rupees for dollar . about rupees to dollar i think  may be u can may be showing ur passport to bank  .

Legality is a gray area in Nepal when it comes to foreign currency. Buying dollars from bank can be a hassles. But if you can a credit card, you can draw in travelers checks. Otherwise, you can easily buy dollars at money exchange places at slightly higher than the bank rate. It also depends on amount and intended purpose. Why you want to buy dollars in Nepal. Although legally not permissible, I know people who have brought in more than 50K cash, and I have not known case where people have been busted for bring in dollars. Few have been questioned and detained for bring in Indian currency because of rampant circulation of fake IC and other illegal cross border activities. PrivateEyeNepal@gmail.com
