I read the news at Kathmandu Post on the topic:

Monarchy root cause of crisis
- http://kantipuronline.com/kolnews.php?&nid=28461

Nepal saw the massacre of the last king Birendra and everyone in his family. We are seeing King G is acting in a crazy manner these days, it seems all that he is doing these days is for the love his son, which is similar to the Mahabharat's Dhritrastra's affinity to his son Duryodhan. As soon as Duryodhan was slained, Dhritrastra saw things clear even if he was blind from birth.

So, since Nepalese have seens so much upside down, unheaval in politics. What will be the scenario in the event Paras Shah will be eliminated? They say in politics everything is acceptable provided the conspiracy is hatched for the good of people. Who should take this job? Let's discuss.

Forget about killing. Assume Paras was killed in his Harley Davidson while biking in Dharan recently. How such event will change the political scenario as there is no one for king G without Paras, how king G will act?

It is funny. We never look at the underlying problems: Chaos created by netas. This is what I see in our folks. I am not a fan of parase. But not blaming netas like girja makes me laugh. We have a good habit of trying to find escape goat. Badai cha sabai lai. Enough of cheap talks.

Kulekhane,
Don't come under the impression that we are bashing Paras for no reason. He is like a rabid dog, so this discussion is very relevant, although, personally I don't feel comfortable with the word'eliminating'. Presently, it so happened that Paras is creating more headlines than Girija et al: kahile diplomats lai pitera, kahile keti lai tanera, kahile some Rana lai pitera, ta kahile Lauti lai pitera. So that's the reason why this thread came up.

It's not that people like the editor of Nikspaksya and Spotlight don't write about Girja et al. It's not that we at sajha have not had bashed Girija et al. Even today after all the kalo kartut of girija and his cronies we still are bombarded with hundreds of Girija related articles, cover stories in magazines etc. There are a plently of them who are still eulogizing Giriza et al. Of course,it has reduced much than the time when he welded absolute power. Now Gyanendra is the absolute authority, so all opportunists are paying obeiseance to him.

KABITA FROM A CHAKAR
Gyanendra timi Bhagwan hau,
Paras timi pani Bhagwan hau,
Timi hamra baba, amma hau,
Ratriya Ekta ka pratik hau,
Hami nepali ko ek matra sahara hau,
Hami nepali ko mutu ka dukdukki hau,
Pravu hajur ko succhi amrit ho,
Pravu hajur ko acchi bhagwan ko bivuti jastai ho

Kulekhaneji:

Why funny? This thread is to thrash Parase. It doesn't mean that people who write here are not writing against or forgetting the bhrasta netas. All are writing vehemently against the netas in so many other threads.

We are not asking you to be fan of parase, and what makes you think that fans of parase are writing in this thread... actually whoever are writing here are anti-fan of parase. We just wanna discuss what will happen if parase is removed somehow out of picture?

Thita thiti ho,
This Ramprasad Khanal, the chatukar number one, also runs NTV?s Lok Dohari program and immediately after Gyane?s Ashojtantra, he released a ghor stutibadi lok dohari album, the song being sth like ? neta le bigare yo desh, rajtantra nai chahinchh hamro Nepalma?? and guess what? Well, the chakadibaz got gorkhadakshinbahu (no exclamation mark here, you know that this is the tradition in Nepal).

I?m surprised that Sahabir Thapa did not mention Paras?s 'poignant poetry'. Soon after his declaration as the crown prince (i don't remember the date, but, it was on one of those Fridays reminiscent of that bloody Fridya, the Narayanhiti Hatyakanda) , it was published in Nepali newspapers that Paras had written a poem, and how good a poet he was?blah, blah. Nepali Times even had a front page article about Paras?s 'poignant poetry'. (you can find out that issue in Nepali Times archive on its site).

Now if he?s eliminated, I?m sure there will be some chakadibaz sahityakars who will write articles with titles like ? Kabi Paras Saha ka kabitaharu ma prayukta saundaryasastra? and again do not be surprised if that taluwa chatuwa stutilekhak gets Gorkhadakshinbahu.

Raute Ji, I am impressed with the way you have presented your thoughts..Really there are very very few people who get decorated with the Gorkha Daksin Bahu for performing genuine duties. Keep it up.

What would you do if you were in his shoes???
Besides it is not his fault he is the crown prince..
Few years ago he was just a regular prince who was enjoying his life , like a regular dude..
Suddenly everyone wants him to change overnight!!! how can that happen????
It takes time..

Pade & Pushkar:

It is funny. 'cause you failed to catch the big dog. Big dog is barking again- Girja again making trouble for soja janta.

Pade: At least paras is doing to one person here and there. But big dogs are looting the whoel country--25 million nepali are suffering. Haven't you seen enough. One of the reason we are in such a shithole is because of typical thinking. No matter what they do, we still accept them as a leaders.

Wake up dude.....

I agree with you KuleKhane... Why after Paras? What has he done to the country compared to most of the leaders in Nepal???
He rides his MOtorbike so what? it is only 12 grand anyone can get it and take it to nepal, I don't think so there is any ristrictions from the palace not to bring in any HD from USA, and besides who said HD are fast (DAdaGIRI ji HD are the slowest bikes on the roads of USA, these bikes are meant for crusin' not speeding, Buell is another brand made my HD, now these are streetbikes-no offense), and why do we pray for him to die, why not pray he becomes like Dipendra sarkar atleast from the outside, who cares how he acts in his palace.
I don't think paras's death is the solution, that will be the root of all problems in nepal.
I know most of you who write here have hatred for the Chettri King, like somewhere up Swati Thapa said that igp was thapa magar, I think he is Chettri Thapa, when I look and read what you guys write sometimes, I feel like the time has come when ALL CHEETRIS SHOULD UNITE .... but that will cause more problems and death in the country, which none of us wants. Brothers and Sisters, we realy clinse our politicians not the royal's, it was the politicians who brought unstability in the country not the King, Maybe if we talk about GP giving up politics or going sanyas, maybe our country will come to peace. Who in the right mind complains about security check, they should be glad they are being taken care of (would John Kerry scream foul play if his plane is searched for security reason saying " BUSH is doing all this to humilate me"). You think you have become american's than think like one, Paras is a small fish in the pond, not even king can do anything to the country, it is the Politicans who have to compormise and unite and try to talk about the country and it's health not the health of the party and oneself, Great leaders are rembered for what they gave up, not what they have accumulated.

I only wish if nepali people realized it is the politicians who are breaking up the country not the king....(imagine why would the king want to mess up his own country? does he have another country to go and live?? and even if he leaves nepal who is going to give him power like that???)

"I only wish if nepali people realized it is the politicians who are breaking up the country not the king....(imagine why would the king want to mess up his own country? --------------> I almost wholeheartedly agree with your statement, but having said that, I firmly believe, royalities are to be blamed equally. I agree moda fawka netas haru lai pani line ma rakhera goli thoke ni kehi paap hundaina. I frequently find myself comparing our royalties to those of other nations, namely that of United Kingdom.

Blue bloods are blue bloods, anywhere, but let's take British Royal Family. Despite shananigans within the family, Prince Charles has been a model prince. (I was reading in Keshab Paudel's article above, "globally renowned conservationist himself, King Gyanendra".... I wonder I should take that line as a satire or should I just laugh at it, for Gyanendra's contribution, if one can call it contribution, comes nowhere close to Charles's, but I digress).

Prince William is shaping to be a good heir as well. Though it might just be a PR event, the video of him cleaning toilets and doing social work in South America made me think, now, this is a guy who is firmly grounded and will make a good king someday. Paras, on the other hand, is the opposite side of the spectrum.

Even if we are to take a more conservative royal family of Japan whose feudalistic past is more recent, the comparision with our royalties brings tears to my eyes. During American Occupation of Japan immediately after WWII, when Emperor Hirohito went to see General Douglas McArthur, his motorcade stopped on the road. Why? Because the traffic light had turned red. This was a subtle, yet very powerful, sign to his subjects that rule of law reigns supreme in modern Japan. Imagine that happening in Kathmandu.

I like Thai food and everytime I go to a Thai restaurant, I am awed by the love Thai people have for their King. Every, any, Thai restaurant has an altar with their King's picture. He must be a great king to have deserved so much respect, not out of fear but out of genuine love. And I wonder about our own.....

Let's look at our own neighbor, Bhutan. Now I have to admit I know little about their royalties, but I was again awed when I read in the Economist (Dec 18th 2004 issue) that the Bhutanese King has, at his own accord, decided to opt for constitutional monarchy. This January, he is tourning his country, drumming up support for a new constitution - a document that will take away much of his power. "...(the king) was worried that future kings might not be as good and wise as he. So he wanted the people to rule themselves." Compare this with what the Economist had to say about Nepal's king (Dec 4th 2004 issue): "despotic monarch of a failing state."

There's a lot to think about.

Riten,

There is a strong similarity between Gyanendra and the King of Swaziland, King Mswati III .

HERE ARE THREE EXAMPLES:

1) Anger over Swazi king's birthday

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/3642067.stm

King Mswati III: Criticised for extravagance
A huge party to mark the Swaziland king's 36th birthday has been criticised as a big waste of money.
On Monday, 10,000 guests gathered in the national football stadium for the event hosted by Africa's last absolute monarch, King Mswati III.

Critics say the country, ravaged by Aids and unemployment, could ill afford the estimated $600,000 cost of the do.

Opposition leader Mario Masuku, told the BBC he thought the government should have been more sensitive.

"The king could have had a private party of his own. The money comes from the tax payer," said the president of the banned Pudemo party.

The day was a public holiday and the event was shown live on national television for those unable to attend the party.

"Everybody has the right to utilise his own hard-earned resources for his enjoyment," he told the Network Africa programme.

"However, the people of Swaziland can hardly afford a birthday party that costs so much," he said.

In recent months, King Mswati III has been heavily criticised for requesting large sums of public money to pay for new palaces and a personal jet.

2) Swazi king splashes on luxury car

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/4091271.stm

King Mswati is one of an elite few who can afford the Maybach
Swaziland's King Mswati has bought a $500,000 (?260,000) luxury car.
Reports of the absolute monarch's latest purchase contrast with accounts of suffering in Swaziland, which has the highest Aids rate in the world.

The Maybach car has a television, DVD player, 21-speaker surround-sound system, fridge, cordless telephone and sterling silver champagne flutes.

The 36-year-old king frequently hits the headlines with stories about his lavish lifestyle.

In April this year, 10,000 guests celebrated his 36th birthday at an event estimated to have cost $600,000, prompting widespread criticism from those who said the country could ill-afford to host such an event.

Swaziland's unemployment rate stands at 40% while almost 70% of the country's one-million population live on an average daily income of $1 or less.

About one third of all Swaziland's people rely on food aid for survival.

Elite group

"We feel great that the king of Swaziland has chosen our product, this shows that our product has arrived. This kind of car is the super high end of the luxury segment," DaimlerChrysler South Africa's spokesperson Fanyana Shiburi told the Times of Swaziland.

Luxurious inside and out... the Maybach has a fridge, DVD player and silver champagne flutes
"Our customers are exclusive people, the super-rich, the kings and queens, oil-rich countries, North Africans and massive lottery winners," he added.

Just four other people in Southern Africa own DaimlerChrysler's flagship Maybach 62, the newspaper said.

The other three Maybach 62 owners in the region are South African business tycoons Cyril Ramaphosa, Tokyo Sexwale and Patrice Motsepe.

"It is unfortunate the king's government is unable to prioritize and do things that will save the nation, as opposed to the interests of the monarch and his family," said Nomthetho Simelane from the University of Swaziland.

In a country where nearly 40% of adults are HIV positive, the king is also criticised for having 11 wives and two fiancees.

In recent years, he has asked parliament for $15m to build a palace for each of his spouses and $45m to buy a royal jet.

Street protests led to him abandoning the plans to buy a luxury jet.

3) Swazi king 'forces out speaker'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/3502310.stm

Mswati III has been criticised for his lavish spending
The speaker of Swaziland's parliament says he has been forced to resign by the ruler of the drought-hit country.
No official reason has been given for the move. However King Mswati had refused to open parliament until Marwick Khumalo quit.

Mr Khumalo said that he was being "victimised for something he did 25 years ago," but did not elaborate.

He also suspected royal insiders sought to oust him because he had opposed attempts to buy the king a private jet.

Two years ago, the normally docile parliament rejected a request to buy a $45m royal jet.

After years of failed rains, a quarter of the 1.1m population need food aid. Swaziland also has one of the world's highest rates of HIV infection - 33%.

"I was called to the royal residence, and formally told that the king had instructed that I should resign," Mr Khumalo was quoted as telling a special parliamentary session late on Wednesday.

He later told the French news agency AFP: "Even now, it is feared that I will overwhelm the new parliament with my 'unpopular political influence', a notion I do not subscribe to."

Many wives

Africa's last absolute monarch is no stranger to controversy.

In January, the Times of Swaziland reported that King Mswati asked for $15m - almost as much as the 2002 health budget - to build a palace for each of his 11 wives.

He chooses a new wife each year at the annual reed dance.

In 2002, the mother of his latest bride took some of his aides to court, accusing them of abducting her daughter.

The day of the Thapa has returned.
MANJUSHREE THAPA

Chief of Army Staff, Pyar Jung Thapa, the Armed Police Force chief Sahabir Thapa, and Nepal Police chief, Shyam Bhakta Thapa.
Till last week the Thapas merely headed only the Royal Nepal Army (Pyar Jung Thapa), the Nepal Police (Shyam Bhakta Thapa) and the Armed Police Force (Sahabir Thapa, who is of Magar origin unlike the others, all Chettri Thapas).

when I look and read what you guys write sometimes, I feel like the time has come when ALL CHEETRIS SHOULD UNITE .... but that will cause more problems and death in the country, which none of us wants.

Aren't Chettris are so called elite ppl of nepal? Weren't chettris who were ruling nepal? Stop bashing Bahuns. Why only Bahun to be blamed. Don't we all nepali pracitce sychophancy and nepotism? Or its only bahuns are doing and none of us doing so? Nijamati karmachari ke sabbai bahun matrai chan ta? chettri, newar, grg, mgr, rai , tharu and madhishe pani chan ni hoina ta? Everybody practice this so stop pin pointing some designated grps. AS somewhere in this Sajha ISO. Freak bro has said that we have tendency to pin others for the failure. Its so interesting to see that the ideals for which ppl are willing to be mobilised and die for in street demonstration dp not appears as soon as they enter the voting booth. The very same ppl who carries those demonstrartion will vote for ppl who promise them clean drinking water ans road to their ghar dailio.
AS if clean drinking water and road comes to ur ghar dailo meets revolution? Rather it shows that different motivation coming into play at different times. This is also sort of sychophancy hoina ta.
