If you want to live large with 65K salary, move to 1. North Carolina: Cary, Raleigh, Durham 2. Texas: Austin, Dallas, College Station I am not sure about other professionals, but I know there are plenty of jobs for Electrical , Computer and Software Engineers in these areas.

San Franscisco is beautiful.. but there are more jobs (professional) in the east coast NY/NJ area. I prefer places where there are lots of opportunities and no ghetto people around.

There's something to every city. Boston, where I live, is one of my favorites for its rich culture and history, it's intellectual circles, arts and music, great restaurants, diversity and progressive thinking. I can be myself in this place without having to be conscious about my national origin or race, political persuassion, age, gender, sexual orientation etc etc. That's true of many major cities in the US too, albeit, to different degrees. Other favorite cities of mine are San Francisco, New York, Seattle, Portland, Chicago, San Diego, Los Angeles, Washington.
