I had promised that I was going to start my own thread regarding stock investments and the markets. So many things have happened since last time I was here and I really do not feel like sharing my knowledge. But a promise is a promise and there have been few people that have emailed me and supported me.

This thread will deal with investing in the stock markets. I will not discuss individual stocks but discuss ETFs like SPY, DIA, IWM and QQQQ. The one good thing about trading ETFs compared to individual stocks is the the ETFs provide instant diversification among similar companies within the same sector.

I will post more as we go along, regarding entry-price, profit-target and stop-losses. I do not think that any ETF is good or bad. It is good only if I'm making money and bad if I'm losig money.

If you have not been in the market so far, please read this as an information piece only rather than my recommendations. There is risk involved and you should know how much risk to take on any position.

Any suggestations, comments and criticisms are welcome as long as it is market related. If this thread gets out of hand and we start discussing off-topics, I'll stop posting.

hey mr emini, can i ask u why is the s&p 1440 level so important.... i went back to one of your earlier post and there was no reason, except u said, u thought there might be a sell off around 1420 - 1440.

Latoboy, if u draw a line chart daily or weekly for SPX, u can see plenty of resistance near 1440. I still think 1420 will give a support, if not we will see 1390-1400. VIX is well under its comfort zone of 20 so SPX might re-test 1440 again. Stay tight man.....

ok, how would i buy stocks?  how would i start?  where would i open account and do the transaction?  what kind of money i will need to start up?  i am also interested in investment and may be some of your help will help me to understand the process.  any help will be appreciated.  thanks.

I wish i hadnt bought some more stocks today.. it looked like it was going to be a great day for the market... until the reversal.   now im stuck because i bought DGLY  and  JRJC.

Latoboy, how did you miss ROYL? Did you get stopped out? With stocks I have stops but I'll let the price to close near or below the stop and I'll get out. I won't actually put a physical stop.

1440 is important because that's where most of the option volume is and add the trend line as singing bowl mentioned and you'll be able to tell a lot. I usually like to use the 65W MA to it too.

For rest of the people, please note that I'm doing short-term trading and I usually post my target and stop. The target on ROYL was 4.80 and it traded above 5 today. I got out at 4.80. You decide what's right for you.

If you got in when I told you to and got out where I told you to, you should be up 40% on ROYL. That's not too bad of a return. All you need is few returns like that and you should be up big.

emini, u are a genius... the last month or so i have been following your picks.... i got to give u respect.

actually i sold royl by accident.. in the morning i put a stop limit button to sell, and must have put in the wrong number without looking  because later in the evening after work, i check my account, and its sold for a very very small loss.

emini, they say sharing is caring :)  u are doing gr8 service to fellow nepalis trying to start out in investing.

I started buying stock with ROYL with very small amount of course and it is rising well above. Do you expect it to go up more? what are some of the low priced stock that i could look at now? What do you guys think of V (Visa) and CROX

sheetalB, im not expert but i can tell u buy V if it goes under $75 and sell Crox .

Here is my personal info. I did mere 10% last year. That was my first year. YTD I'm up 15%.

The annual numbers will put some weight on the discussion, I believe.

Wat do u guys think abt  SOLF, i know its already up 40% in last week but if it's gonna follow wat SOL  and CSIQ did last week, it will be aweosme.Since all solar stocks are beating the estimate like crazy, I won' t be suprised for another huge run after ER tomorrow.

 Its risky to buy shares just before the ER , which is tomorrow morning before market, but i got in last week, i'll selling half and holding half .I would be not suprised it it goes to 26.50 or even 27 before market close today.

anthony, me personally i think solar stocks are risky short term... they are trading at amazingly high valuations... and a lot of shorts are hovering around solar at the moment... they want to bring down solar stocks.
