Yeah it will be fun to see if Prashant wins the title -- tara jhur jhur geet jhur taal le gaera jityo bhane jitya jun maja aaune ho tyo ta aaudaina -- dhuwaadaar performance diera jitne po jitne --- He may win with the votes primarily from Nepali or Nepali orgin people around the voting territories, and Kolkata + other police force folks but I also want majority of the listeners/viewers to agree that yeah Prashant deserved the title. Prasant som afailai pani ta ke laagnu paryo bhane usle jiteko usko ability le ho khali samarthanako vote le matrai haina --- natra ta usailai pani antarmanmaa maja aaudaina.
Mero subhakamana ta Prashant lai nai chha -- jitos.
A Friday evening is no longer the way it once used to be, everyone is in a rush to get home or to stop conversation and watch TV.
A colleague I was working with on a project left before I got to meet him. His message read, ‘have to reach home early- will get it done on Sunday.’ There was a big smiley at the bottom of the note, I smiled too, I knew what he meant.
Our friends had invited us over to their place for dinner but it was canceled at the last minute because their television broke down. They’re going out to a relatives place instead. The last day of the week, there was no way we were eating in. Tonight we needed to be served - not serving. Keeping in mind that we had to be home by 9, we chose to eat at a local restaurant rather than go all the way to town.
We decided to have chowmein rather than our favorite roast chicken, because the latter takes time in preparation. Five minutes after sitting down, we were amazed to have our order served. The captain came sailing by and we complimented him on the fast service, the old man looked at his watch and merely smiled. We decided we could afford to stay a bit longer and so asked for some wine. A couple of sips later, the waiters began packing up. The empty chairs went up and the young waiters were out and about collecting the bills. Feeling awkward we requested for our bill. When we asked if this was the usual closing time, he said it wasn’t, ‘today is Friday sir’, he said coyly, his boyish grin charming us all. We exchanged knowing smiles.
Having paan after dinner is a luxury, because that’s what our dad treats us to after special dinners hosted at home. ‘paan is not something you have everyday’, daddy says,’ it wont be special if it’s not treated specially’. Being served is special, and not complete without a paan to top it off. When reaching the paan dokaan, our friendly dai from the madhesh is packing in the last piece of his tiny table. Upon seeing us approach he apologetically smiles. ‘9:15? Is it already?’ we ask, he gives us a broad grin that brightens up his little space of a shop and we end up having paan parag instead.
Walking back home in the dim lighted alley that is complemented with warm lights pouring out through the curtains of homes on the way – we muse at the things we get to hear. The television is on full blast in some while in others, children call out to their parents to hurry.
It’s an invisible bond – this feeling we get every Friday evening. The smiles are understood, the rush is mutually experienced and the excitement is clear.
Saying music has power feels wrong – to me music has magic. It has the magic to bring everyone together, irrespective of cast, creed or color. Thanks to technology, at 9:15 every Friday evening, we get to watch a music program that has brought Nepali people together in a way like no other.
At a time when the country is facing issues on color, creed and history among its very own people, the love of being a Nepali unites us every time a young man from Darjeeling sings his heart out to millions who watch him every week. He may be singing in a different language than ours, on TV he maybe speaking a tongue different to ours but his participation has us proud. Prashant Tamang makes us feel good about who we are; what he and his voice reflects is what we as Nepalese relate to.Simple, innocent and clean hearted Nepalese who’s every wish is to have nothing of hatred and violence.
As I make myself comfortable to get ready to watch the show, I silently pray for Prashant to do his magic again, so that he’ll stay another week and another. Selfish as it may appear I can’t imagine him off the show, because as long as he is on TV, there’s a warmth and understanding in the smiles we share whenever the topic arises and if you take the time to notice, you’ll realize that a smile that genuine is almost extinct because there are no longer any such reasons for it to come around.
Prashant Tamang is that reason, the reason why everyone sees one another as a Nepali – nothing more and nothing less.
Monday, August 20, 2007 BSNL MAKES "SMS" FOR 'PRASHANT TAMANG' COSTLY AFFAIR
Gangtok&Darjeeling Aug. 19: BSNL has served up a rude shock to subscribers by quietly increasing its charges for sending SMS votes to support contestants in televised music talent hunts like Indian Idol and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. Currently, an SMS vote costs BSNL subscribers Rs 3.50, which includes Rs 1.50 for the text message and Rs 2 for the confirmation that the vote has been registered. Even last week, the charge was Rs 3 and when the shows began, around three months ago, it was just Re 1. While the change has occurred across the country, people here are feeling the pinch more than others because two local singers, Prashant Tamang and Karma Sherpa, are in the final rounds of Indian Idol and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa respectively. Everyday, lakhs of SMS votes are sent in their favour from this town alone. Such is the craze that even people from Nepal are coming down to Darjeeling during weekends for the sole purpose of voting for Tamang and Sherpa. Initially, BSNL was charging its prepaid customers Re 1 for an SMS vote, the normal charge for sending a text message. Within a month, however, the subscribers realised that an additional Rs 2 was being deducted once they received a confirmation of the vote from a particular server designated by the show hosts, Sony (Idol) and Zee Bangla (Sa Re Ga). In the past one week, BSNL has again increased the initial charge from Re 1 to Rs 1.50 per text message, taking the total cost of an SMS vote to Rs 3.50. Private operators charge Rs 3 per SMS vote. “The service provider is engaging in unhealthy business practices. The company has the prerogative to increase its rates, but it is its duty to inform the customers when revised rates are introduced,†said Sonam G. Wandi, an employment officer from Darjeeling and a BSNL subscriber. BSNL invariably sends text messages to its subscribers to announce the launch of new services. However it gave no such intimation when the voting charges were revised. Divisional engineer (services) of BSNL A.K. Biswas initially claimed that he did not know of the new rates, having been out of station for a while. Later, however, he confirmed the hike. “The rates have been increased from Re 1 to Rs 1.50 for non-personalised destinations since August 16,†said Biswas. When asked why customers were not informed, Biswas said he would look into the matter.
Song to pull votes for indian idol Prashnat Tamang
Darjeeling, Aug. 16: Three singers from the hills have lent their voice to support Prashant Tamang, who has reached the Top Six at Indian Idol. Sagar Bal and Kiran Waiba, who as Sagar-Kiran have seven hit Nepali albums under their belt, have joined hands with another singer, Anurag Waiba, to come up with a one-song video album dedicated to Prashant. The proceeds of the album will be handed over to Prashant’s family to buy mobile recharge coupons, so that a dedicated group of volunteers can keep sending text messages to vote for the boy from Darjeeling. Each contestant’s fate at the nationally televised talent hunt depends on the number of audience votes he or she can garner after every performance. The album, which is in Hindi and called Lakho dil ki dharkan hamara Prashant Tamang, hit the market today and has been flying off the shelves. “The album is priced Rs 100, but we have decided to keep only Rs 25 to recover the investment. The rest will be given to Prashant’s family,†said Sagar. A month ago, members of the Gorkha community living here as well as abroad had donated money with the same aim. The family members of Prashant in turn had formed an informal committee to manage the SMS voting process. Darjeeling municipal commissioner Tenzing Khambachay, a close family friend who is monitoring the use of recharge coupons, said: “We will spend the money in the same way we did earlier. It is really heartening to see people coming forward to help their hero.†The 15-minute song has been shot in different parts of the hills, including monasteries, churches, temples and mosques, with different communities in traditional attire drumming up support for the Calcutta Police constable. Sagar, who like Kiran is in his mid-thirties, said the idea of the album germinated after he heard a comment that artists from the hills were not coming forward to help Prashant. “This really rankled and I got hold of other singers to come up with this album,†said Sagar. Ejazz Ali of Strings 786 Audio Station, a recording studio in Darjeeling, not only wrote the lyrics in Hindi but also composed and provided music to the album. Amar Jain produced it. Various other people, along with local TV channels, also contributed and it took only 20 days to make the album.
Prashant should pay his attention to quality, including right song selection. If he misses single time that will cost him lot. Its not time just to vote blindly....he MUST need to be serious.
Upto this song, everyone was praising him....wow..."Anoke awaz", " Har Family ke chahete/ Fav. sepoy" "Correct pronunciation" "energy, spirit, voice"....but i think from this song, he became a bashing thing for other judges......coz he answered to a question "Ghar pe aap kya jaban bolte hain" .........and he answered "umm Sir Nepali"....so a person who sepaks nepali @ home......how can he be indian idol representing the whole hindusthan ? so from that point Javed, Alsiha and Anu have been giving negative comments to Prashant
common man dont be too childish, it not because he speaks nepali that judges are negative to him, its because he is not singing upto the mark. they have been praising him when he sings good. even udit is not prasing him when he doesnot do good, so i totally disagree with your point
THIS IS A COMPETITION, HE HAS TO FIGHT WHEN HE DOESNOT GET A SINGLE GOOD COMMENT (FROM ANY OF THE JUDGES) THAN ITS TRUE THAT HE IS NOT SINGING GOOD
the huge fan crowd behind him should be satisfied that they are voting the right person
BEST OF LUCK PRASHANT, WE ARE WITH YOU, AND HOPE YOU WIN
Just got to know from the chat happening with Emon @II website, that the contestant cannot choose any song they like. It has to be from a couple of songs provided to each one of them. So, may be those guys at sony are not being fair with Prashant in the choices provided to him. May be it just clicked me from Emon's reply to one of his fan's query. See below Excerpt from the chat for reference
omishahasks Emon would you please choose a song which is sung by any other singer but Sonu Nigam? emon says I have to sing the songs that have been chosen for me. It just so happened that many of them were songs sung by Sonuji. I did not protest because the songs were also very good.
Thanks for important info, otherwise, I was thinking why Prashant is not chosing good songs, Now it is clear how Sony and Judges are playing politics to bring Prashant down. Ultimately, Mr. Bond's analysis seems to be very very true. Later on even if Prashant gets overwhelming votes, Sony may remove him from the list.
Exactly thats what they are trying to do. They'll keep him till the last. To earn all the money from the SMS sent by the hill people of darjeeling, sikkim & the northeast. I guess they have earned a lot by now. Because people are just voting like anything. But by the end even if Prashan's winning they will not let him be the idol.
You people ever followed Sa re ga ma in ZeeTv histed by our won Aditya . There every week they mention who is the topper in term of maximum no of votes from abroad as well as within india. But II3 never mentioned that, therefore its easy for them to manipulate.
I think so too gaunlebhai. I remember Prashant said he was happy that he got an opportunity to sing Sarfarosh's song. It seems the music director working with the contestants select the songs for each contestant rather than contestants pick his or her own songs. Knowing the facts that contestants cannot choose his or her own songs why the judges comments that the songs selection is not good or easy. I think judges are doing this just to let the certain contestants confidence down and boost the confidence for their favourite ones. The judges are playing poltics. These judges lack good judgements. I think they are not fit for judges.
^ exactly if contesant cannot choose what song they want to sing. if Sony/judges or whoever decides the song. How can it be a Poor song selection on Amit/ Prashant or any contastants part.
They are like "aap ne gana to acha gaya" lekin song selection... What kinda crap is that.
Yeah that's what I saw while reading Emon's chat transcription. If that's true then why the judges are bashing contestants for poor/easy song selection.
Now, I got a clue why Javed didn't like Prashant's 1st gala song. All the judges said he sang so beautifully. All the judges praised Prashant's song. They said it was such a tough song for gala and he did outstanding but Javed said he sang like untrained singer, and added it is open now that Prashant is not a trained singer. I think reason behind is, he is scared that if Prashant keeps that level, there is no competation between him and the rest of the contestants, and Prashant will definately be the Indian Idol 3 winner which he doesn't want. I think he saw this is coming beforehand so, he started giving negative comments all the time so far except he gave a small portion of good comments in 6 or7 gala when Anu Malik came to the stage to subprize Prashant. Now all the judges are commenting in one voice to bring him down. We shouldn't be fool by those judges. We need to know that judges are playing poltics with the contestants and the public. Shame on those judges.
