If you took a poll today and asked if interracial marriage is okay, I imagine that you'd get about 80% of people who said yes (let's ignore the fact that 20% of people saying 'no' is scary as all hell). If you went back 40 years and asked the same question, I imagine the situation would be reversed.

I guarantee you, if you went back just 20 years, maybe only 5-10% of people would have been pro gay marraige. But in 2004, it's around 40%. Given another 10-20 years, it might be 60-80% as well.

Tell me reason why it should be illegal??? Illegal anywhere in world???
They also have equal rights to live their life don't they?? Or if Nature has made him/her like that means they shouldn't be treated as human????

Screw that, have there only be civil unions, and let people refer to it with whatever nickname they want to use. Marriage, Kekkon, whatever. Marriage isn't always a religious thing, and generally was used as a purely political/financial maneuver. It's a property transferance ceremony.

Only recently did it acquire this notion of "love" being involved beforehand. (Probably set up by the same people that make you think that diamond rings are some sort of time-honored tradition.)

There should be no benefits or perks or downsides associated with being married, with regards to the law. The only thing it should cover is those "next of kin" things and wills and such. And as such, it shouldn't care whether you marry a man, a woman, or triplets.

Since homosexuality has thrived since times immemorial... it is inevitable that the day arrive when they ask for lawful recognition of their union. (aarrggghh!) Truthfully enough, im not very comfortable with the whole idea. But i am able to feel for their position and wish them only well. Aye, to legalisation! Individuals, regardless of their "choice" should always have the right to choose whom they please.Basic human right!

Matrix, while i agree with you on several factors, i have to say the "notion" about love has its charms. Too many songs and poems have been written on that particualr subject.I guess we have been thoroughly brainwashed huh? ;) And well, marriage remains for many still , a sacred ritual you go through with someone you hope to grow old with, guaranteed ofcourse with seasons of downpour and sunshine and hail and occasional rainbows. :)

Gone with the wind...

I think it's only a matter of time before civil unions and or marriages become legal across the world. As for acceptance, it will probably take longer, perhaps even a generation or so, for most societies to fully embrace the idea. But that is the direction things seem headed towards and I dont think anyone can really stop them from happening.

Very interesting to see almost nobody oppose it yet... I hope it can be attributed to the decline of homophobia in Kurakani.

I think it is something just over publicised by the media and polticians.....you just need to leave them gays alone....let them be what they want to be....they dont come to you and ask you to be gay...so let them be it!!! and let they enjoy their life!!!

dc_virus,

I think that (what you said) would be keeping the status-quo in the so called developed world. But the gay community is now asking (perhaps rightly?) for a recognition. Some quarters of the mainstream society see it as an encroachment into their traditional institutions. I think the question is whether you belong to one of those quarters...asking you to abandon your indifference and take a side.

The argument against gay marriage all too often is that allowing gay couples to marry somehow threatens the institution of marriage for the heterosexual couples--I think this says a heck of a lot more about the insecurities of the straight people than it does about the desires of the gay couples to make the committment.

Granted the notin of gay community initsels is something that makes certain people want to go back to living in caves...but that is their choice--you wish to live a life of utter denial go right ahead!

The gay community has as much of a claim to the legal privileges that marriage gives that the rest of us do--there is no reason---other than the "moral" one that allowing gay couples to marry means that marrige is ruined for everyone and all the kids that gay couples will adopt will also be gay---it is an argument lacking all semblance of reason and logic.

I think, People here are discussing about being gay and not gay without knowig why so???
Just because parents are gay doesn't mean that their children will be so...Ur sis or bro is gay doesn't mean that U ll be a gay or lessie....People become that due to natural factors!!!..I m no scientist to describe all this!!!
But DUHH!!!! People know what homosexuality is before u even talk about it...
AND talking about hinduism and all!!! I think there are lots of things in hindu myth that resembles the Homosexuality!!!
Just KNOW THE SHIT BEFORE U OPEN MOUTH FOR THAT!!!!
Chill out,
Nirman~*
