Former speaker Dhungana barred from leaving Kathmandu

Security personnel at the Tribhuvan International Airport barred former Speaker Daman Nath Dhungana from boarding a flight for USA Thursday morning.
He is the Senior Advocate, one of drafter of present Constitution and one of the cleanest politicians of the Nepali Congress.

Talking to Nepalnews, the former speaker and prominent rights activist Dhungana said he was invited by the University of California-Berkeley to speak on ?Democracy, Maoist insurgency and Constitutional Solution? pertaining to the present political crisis in Nepal on March 12. He was also planned to attend a program in Boston and in the mean time he was supposed to meet with his son Mr. Nishesh Dhungana ,who is in Boston.

This was not the right step King's government has taken . What do you guys think about that?

Obviously, the government, made up of crooks, freaks and hacks could do no better.

The nation is sliding into the realm of anarchy, where the only rule is something not written anywhere, but issued by the shameless ruler living at a palace. We are now disgraced at World Bank, among our friendly countries, and slowly, as news such as that of Kapilbastu mobbing come forth, we are being seen as a pariah nation.

Democracy, with all its foibles and blemishes, was a system with known parameters of law governing it. People like Gyanendra and Tulsi Giri have no regard for such a system, especially when they think they own the country. Unsurprisingly, their first target is unarmed civil society and the fourth state: they can live with other barbarians such as the Maoists, but not with the civil and cultivated mass.
