Hi
I came to US in Fall  2007 as student (F1 visa) and worked as RA.  while filing the federal tax return for the year 2007, i was completely unaware about which forms to use while filing the tax return so i filed it online(1040).I got the federal tax return and also the stimulus check. Now i came to know that i should have filed 1040NR-EZ rather than 1040. Now i don't want to repeat the mistake i made last year. what are the possibilities of correcting it? genuine and expert help will highly be appreciated.

Don't worry about it. I know many who intentionally file 1040 to get the refund. In fact, there are no checks in 1040 for residency so if you go to H&R block or file online, you will be filing 1040EZ. It will be more hassle for you to file 1040NR-EZ BUT it is the right thing to do. Whether it is the best thing to do is your decision.

has anyone been caught or did any nepali face some difficulties  for greencard or  jobs due to tax fraud(knowingly or unknowingly)? what are the consequences??
