Because of the labor shortage caused by the immigration crackdown, some industries now say, "If you're a U.S. citizen, you don’t have to work night shifts." But why not just stop night shifts completely?
Big companies like Amazon and Walmart stay open 24/7 because they know immigrants are the ones working those hours. Twenty years ago, most stores closed on Easter, Christmas, and Thanksgiving. Now, many stay open part of the day or all day. That’s because immigrants are filling those shifts.
These companies are taking advantage of immigrant workers, whether they are here legally or not.

That’s interesting, because I live a block away from a Walgreens that’s open 24/7, and when I go there at 2 or 3 a.m., I usually see U.S. citizens working — mostly white, if that matters to the argument. So maybe the idea that only immigrants are willing to work night shifts isn’t as solid as it sounds.

Also, not sure when we decided that Americans are completely incapable of taking tough shifts. Plenty still do — maybe not by choice, but because rent doesn’t care about your schedule. It's almost like the real issue isn’t immigration, but how companies treat all low-wage workers like they're replaceable.

But yeah, let’s keep pretending this is just about immigrants "filling the gaps" while ignoring how corporations benefit from underpaying *everyone* regardless of where they were born.
